Britton delighted with City win

Bath City manager Adie Britton revealed he was relieved to see his charges secure a 1-0 victory over Fisher Athletic on Saturday.

The caretaker boss, who took over the permanent managerial post after John Relish stepped down on Tuesday, admitted it had been a tough few days at Twerton Park.

He told This Is Bath: "To be honest, I have been worrying about the game all week.

"It has been a really difficult few days, what with the working relationship between John and myself coming to an end after such a long period of time.

"They have been my most enjoyable days in football working with him so that was very, very sad.

"Then there was the joy of taking over and the sadness of knowing you have to release a load of players. That has been difficult, especially when I had to tell Paul Cochlin he was going.

"That was quite upsetting because he has done nothing wrong and I know he is a good player but it just hasn't worked out.

"So to end the week with a reasonable start is very pleasing."

The mentor was particularly impressed with the Romans' attacking play down the wings against the Fish.

"We had worked all week on the wide men and full backs getting forward and getting crosses into the box, and I thought we did that in abundance," added Britton.

"We didn't really have the final product in the first-half but in the end we got a good goal from a very, very good cross...

"In fairness, we went away in the summer with the intent of bringing in players who would pass the ball better, hence the signings of the likes of Martin Slocombe, Ali Gibb and Jamie Gosling, but it hasn't really worked for us yet, mainly because the personnel haven't been available.

"Now is the time to implement those ideas. It won't happen all the time because there will be games where it will be appropriate to turn teams around but at the end of the day, I've got to stand here and watch the side all afternoon and the enjoyment comes from watching them pass the ball.

"I want to be excited by our play and I think if I am, then the fans will be as well."
