Bath City 3-2 Newport County

Bath City picked up a vital three points after coming out on top against Newport County in a five-goal thriller at Twerton Park on Tuesday evening.

The visitors opened the scoring through Nat Jarvis before Bath fashioned a two-goal lead thanks to goals from Adam Connolly, Sean Canham and Scott Murray. Gary Warren managed to pull one back for Newport but the hosts held firm to claim their third win of the campaign.

The Exiles drew first blood on 13 minutes when Andrew Hughes' cross-cum-shot came back off the post and was prodded home by Jarvis.

Bath piled forward in search of the equaliser and forced a number of corners before drawing level in the 23rd minute when Connolly fired home with the help of the underside of the crossbar.

They didn't ease off on their opponents after drawing level and went on to claim the lead on the half-hour mark as Canham converted an inviting Lewis Hogg cross with a flicked effort from inside the six-yard box.

Newport were struggling to contain the hosts but managed to hold firm until the half-time break.

However, they fell further behind just two minutes into the second half when winger Murray lost his marker on the edge of the box before firing into the bottom-left corner.

Justin Edinburgh's men recovered quickly from that early setback and reduced the deficit in the 54th minute when Warren headed home from Darryl Knights' corner kick.

The goal galvanised the visitors, who used the driving winds to their advantage as they pinned Bath back in their own half.

However, they were unable to break down an obstinate defence as Bath held firm to claim a vital three points.

Bath bookings: S Canham, M Canham.

Newport bookings: Doherty.

Ref: Robinson.
