Easter Monday's Blue Square South wrap

League leaders Eastbourne Borough suffered defeat at the hands of Welling United in what was another exciting round of Blue Square South football on Easter Monday.

Basingstoke 0-4 Bath City

A Dave Gilroy hat-trick helped Bath City to a 4-0 thrashing of Basingstoke at the Camrose on Monday afternoon.

Gilroy grabbed his goals in the 10th, 21st and 90th minutes, while Lewis Hogg netted in the 29th minute to add to what was a wonderful afternoon for the visitors.

The victory keeps Bath's hopes of achieving promotion alive, while Basingstoke remain rooted in mid-table.

Bishop's Stortford 3-1 Sutton Utd

Bishop's Stortford proved to be the better side as they came out on top of their encounter with Sutton Utd at Woodside Park on Monday afternoon.

Sam Higgins got the ball rolling for the home side when he netted the opening goal in the 15th minute.

Edwards doubled their lead in the 39th minute and grabbed his brace on the hour-mark.

Jason Goodchild pulled one back for the away side when he netted with 13 minutes left on the clock, but it was a little too late as the home side cruised to the three-points.

The victory keeps Bishop's Stortford on track in their quest for promotion, while Sutton remain rooted to the foot of the table.

Bromley 3-1 Cambridge City

Two late goals handed Bromley victory over Cambridge City at Hayes Lane on Monday afternoon.

Karl Beckford put the home side into the lead in the 29th minute, but it took just eight minutes for the visitors to equalise when Lee Roach netted from close range.

But it was to be the home side's day as both McDonnell (70) and Danny Hockton (88) netted to send the fans home delighted.

The three-points will go a long way in boosting Bromley for their promotion push in the run-in, while Cambridge City sit in mid-table safety.

Eastleigh 1-0 Bognor Regis Town

A single goal was all that was needed for Eastleigh to see off the challenge of Bognor Regis Town at Sparshatts Stadium on Monday afternoon.

It was an evenly contested affair with both sides seemingly eager to wait for the opposition to make the first move.

And it was the home side who did just that when Andrew Forbes netted in the 64th minute to hand the home side the three-points.

The victory leaves Eastleigh in third-spot on the league table, while Bognor Regis Town remain dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Havant and Waterlooville 2-0 Newport County

FA Cup heroes Havant and Waterlooville put on an impressive performance as they beat Newport County at West Leigh Park on Monday afternoon.

It took an hour for the home side to make their dominance count when Charlie Henry was quickest to pounce on a loose ball and prod home.

Rocky Baptiste made sure of the points when he netted from the penalty spot on 67 minutes.

The result keeps Havant and Waterlooville safely rooted to the middle of the table, while Newport County sit just two places below them.

Maidenhead Utd 1-2 Thurrock

Thurrock had to come from behind to seal the three-points against a spirited Maidenhead Utd side at York Road on Monday afternoon.

The home side opened the scoring when Manny Williams responded quickest to find the back of the net with a superb placed shot.

But all the home side's hard work was undone on the stroke of half-time when Greg Lincoln equalised from the penalty spot.

And the visitors sealed the points in the 78th minute when David Bryant netted from long range.

The home side rallied towards the end, but the visitors proved resolute in defence and held on to claim the three-points.

The defeat leaves Maidenhead Utd dangerously close to the relegation places, while Thurrock sit safely in mid-table.

St Albans 2-0 Hayes & Yeading

A goal in each half handed St Albans a well deserved three-points against a resolute Hayes & Yeading outfit at Clarence Park on Monday afternoon.

Wasiu-Akanni Sunday opened the scoring for the home side in the 15th minute after a period of pressure from the Saints.

Despite their early dominance the home side could not make any more inroads on the scoreboard until the second period.

And it was Paul Bruce who achieved that inroad when he found the back of the net to secure the points on 73 minutes.

The three-points will boost relegation threatened St Albans, while Hayes & Yeading have no real objectives left for the season as they sit comfortably in mid-table.

Welling United 1-0 Eastbourne Borough

A late penalty sealed the points for Welling United against Eastbourne Borough at Park View Road on Monday afternoon.

The match began in rather dire circumstances as neither side looked interested in taking the match by the scruff of the neck.

And that trend continued in the second-half until the 85th minute.

A defensive mistake from the visitors handed the home side the opportunity to score from the penalty spot, something which Richard Carpenter had no problems doing.

The defeat comes as a major blow for league leaders Eastbourne Borough, while the three-points is a major boost for Welling United as they look to stave off relegation.

Weston-Super-Mare 1-0 Dorchester

A single goal was all that was needed for Weston-Super-Mare to see off the challenge of Dorchester at the Woodspring Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Powell was the man who grabbed that goal in the 36th minute thanks to some impressive midfield play from the home side.

That goal was the only real piece of attacking movement from either side as Weston-Super-Mare cruised to the three-points.

The loss leaves Dorchester staring relegation in the eyes, while Weston-Super-Mare will be boosted by the victory ahead of their fight against the drop.

The clash between Lewes and Fisher Athletic was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
