Shaun Brooks
Dorchester Town's director of football Shaun Brooks is trying to stay positive despite seeing his side suffer yet another defeat on Monday afternoon.
The Magpies were defeated by fellow relegation battlers Weston-Super-Mare at the Woodspring Stadium and now face the tough task of lifting themselves out of the dreaded drop zone.
"We worked hard, started well and created a few opportunities but Weston went and scored somewhat against the run of play," Brooks told the Dorset Echo.
"I felt we dominated the second half but Weston defended well and we couldn't find that finishing touch.
"I can't fault the work rate and effort of the players, we just lacked a bit of quality at times in what was a typical relegation dogfight.
"Wins for Welling and St Albans have also made the task harder for us and the form of both those sides must be up there with the best in the league right now, which is making it more difficult for us.
"Defeat at Weston though is a major blow for us."
However, Brooks is still hopeful that Dorchester can collect as many points as possible from a remaining 21.
He added: "I think it's very difficult for us because the teams above us keep winning games. But there are still 21 points to play for and it will take a massive effort on our behalf and for others to drop points.
"We have improved as a team and we do have it all to do because the points deficit is huge. But while safety is still mathematically possible we will give it our best shot.
"We've got two home games coming up now against two dangerous sides in Thurrock and Maidenhead but if we can pick up maximum points there will be a real chink of light with five games still to play after those two fixtures."
