Relish committed to Bath cause

Bath City manager John Relish has moved to re-affirm his commitment to the club following speculation linking him with the vacant post at Newport County.

The 54-year-old recently penned a new two-year deal with the Romans but has emerged as the leading candidate for the job at his former club.

Relish was at the helm with Newport for thirteen years in the Football League and returned to lead the club following it's reformation in the late 1980s.

"I've got a job to do at Bath City and I'd rather stay where I am - there's no doubt about that in my mind," Relish told The Bath Chronicle.

"Of course the Newport job is an attractive one in terms of the bigger budget - but Adie Britton and I have set out our stall to get Bath City into the Conference National with a five-year plan and we're three years into that.

"The Newport job has not come at the right time for me.

"I'd love to be able to say after five years that I've taken Bath City from the Southern League to the Conference and, if I do that, then maybe it would be nice to get off and do some of the other things I want to do in life.

"Occasionally I do get frustrated because we can't push on as quickly as we like," he added.

"But I know exactly where the directors are coming from and they were the ones who saved the club from dire straits not so long ago.

"What I have a problem with is that the club hasn't been attractive to other investors - Bath is a big enough place and an affluent place."
