Chelmsford sign Pavett and Thomas

Head Coach Glenn Pennyfather has added two extra attacking dimensions to his Chelmsford City squad with news that exciting prospect Jordan Pavett has signed from Colchester United alongside powerhouse striker Simon Thomas who has recently completed a trial period with the League One side after his release from Crystal Palace.

Pavett is a promising 18-year-old forward who has been scoring on a regular basis for Colchester United's Reserve and Youth Teams. The former Ipswich Town youngster is a second-year scholar at United's Centre of Excellence and netted a 'First Team' goal against Redbridge in the Senior Cup earlier in the season to add to his reputation. He will link-up with the Clarets on a work experience basis for the rest of 2009/10.

Meanwhile, Thomas is 25 years old and joins with a decent pedigree having recently been on trial with the U's, scoring twice in Wednesday's friendly against Southend United. A tall striker with an imposing physique, some of his earliest senior football was spent in the Ryman League with Wivenhoe Town before moving to Boreham Wood, where he scored approximately a goal every other game in the Ryman Premier.

Championship outfit Crystal Palace saw enough to make them swoop for his signature ahead of the 2008/09 campaign and loan spells at Rotherham United, Ebbsfleet United and Darlington followed, appearing seven times in League Two as recently as this season. His release took him briefly to Billericay Town before he was permitted to take part in a trial period at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Pennyfather said: "Jordan's got a great touch and the physical side of his game will come with age so we'd like him to carry on his development with us.

"I've been in discussions with Simon for a while to see what developed and, with big games coming-up, I had to ensure we had firepower up-front with players injured.

"We've got a lot of strikers but I'm under no pressure to move anyone on and it's great to have competition for places."
