Friday's Blue Square South Wrap

Steve King's Lewes maintained pole position on the Blue Square South table on Friday night with Eastbourne Borough and Bath City leading the chasing pack.

Bath City 1-1 Newport County

The Romans came from a goal down to earn a share of the spoils with Newport County at Twerton Park. The visitors broke the deadlock in the 40th minute through Ian Hillier and Dave Gilroy equalised for Bath in the 62nd minute.

Despite picking up just one point at home Bath hold on to third place on the table with 14 points while maintain 10th place with nine points.

Bishop's Stortford 3-4 St Albans

The Saints managed to beat the Bishops at Woodside park on Friday night with the exciting match offering spectators no less than seven goals.

The hosts got off to a flying start when Greg Pearson found the back of the net after just two minutes. Mark Beard netted the equaliser for St Albans in the 18th minute and Danny Morgan added their second just three minutes later.

Hassan Sulaimani doubled their lead in the 38th minute and Carl Patten pulled one back for Bishop's Stortford just after the half-time break. With the game heading for an exciting finish, Sulaimani bagged his second to put the visitors in a commanding position.

Loui Fazakerley managed to get himself on the scoresheet in the 87th minute to reduce the deficit once again but it was not enough as the Saints held on to the lead to earn all three points.

Bognor Regis Town 0-2 Eastbourne Borough The Sports are still hot on the heels of league leaders Lewes after what turned out to be a comfortable victory over Bognor Regis Town at Nyewood Lane.

Patrick Harding scored Eastbourne's first goal just before the first-half break and Scott Chamberlin netted their second in injury time.

After this latest result Bognor Regis slip down to 16th place on the table with six points while Eastbourne Borough maintain a two-point gap on the league leaders.

Fisher Athletic 1-1 Cambridge City

The Fish were held to a draw by Cambridge City at Champion Hill Stadium on Friday evening after the first half ended goalless. The Lilywhites drew first blood in the 58th minute thanks to Ashley Fuller and the home side equalised two minutes later through Shaun Batt.

Lewes 2-0 Welling

The Rooks maintained their great start to the season with a comfortable win over Neil Smith's Welling at The Dripping Pan. Paul Booth opened for Lewes with a 3rd minute penalty kick and Andrew Drury netted the second in the 66th.

Lewes remain unbeaten having collected 19 points from their first seven fixtures while Welling slip down to 15th with seven points.

Thurrock 0-5 Hampton & Richmond

Hampton & Richmond demolished a struggling Thurrock side on Friday evening thanks to two braces and a penalty.

Alan Devonshire's side opened their account in the 27th minute through Lawrence Yaku and the striker notched a second goal in the 40th minute. Ian Hodges made it 3-0 just before the break and forward Elliott Godfrey scored a 55th minute penalty kick to make it 4-0.

Hodges popped up again just minutes before the full-time whistle to complete his brace and round off an impressive victory.
