Saturday's Blue Square South Wrap

Basingstoke, Bognor Regis and Braintree all collected wins at home on Saturday afternoon while Newport County and Weston-Super-Mare both recorded away wins.

Basingstoke 2-1 Welling Utd

The Dragons claimed 11th place on the table on Saturday with a narrow win over Welling United at the Camrose Ground.

All the action took place in the first-half with neither of the two sides able to find the back of the net after the break.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 26th minute thanks to Michael Charles only for Omari Coleman to net the equaliser three minutes later.

However, Basingstoke reclaimed the lead seven minutes later when Jason Bristow found the back of the net to make it 2-1 in front of 509 fans.

Bognor Regis Town 2-0 Cambridge City

The Rocks recorded a vital win over Cambridge City with a goal virtually from the kick-off and another in injury time.

Luke Nightingale netted the opener for Bognor and Scott Chamberlain bagged their second just before the final whistle.

After this latest result, Bognor are still in 20th place but move up to 11 points, while Cambridge slip down to 16th.

Braintree Town 1-0 Dorchester

Braintree appointed new manager Lee Patterson on Friday and it had a positive influence on the Iron as they recorded a much-needed win over Dorchester Town at Cressing Road.

The solitary goal of the match came in the 74th minute courtesy of Lewis Riddle and this result will give Braintree a bit of breathing room in the bottom half of the table.

Fisher Athletic 1-3 Newport County

Peter Beadle's Newport County moved up to third place on the table this Saturday with a comfortable win over Fisher Athletic at Champion Hill Stadium.

Charlie Griffin opened for Newport in the ninth minute and Craig Hughes bagged their second after 75 minutes.

The Fish pulled one back through Wesley Thomas with minutes left on the clock but Jason Bowen slotted home a 82nd minute penalty to put the game beyond doubt.

St Albans 0-3 Weston-S-Mare

Weston-Super-Mare kept pace with the chasing pack after cruising to what turned out to be a comfortable victory over the Saints at Clarence Park.

The first half ended goalless but it was a completely different game after the restart.

Ryan Harley came flying out of the starting blocks and netted in the 46th and 51st minutes to make it 2-0.

Gareth Hopkins was on target in the 69th minute to round off an impressive performance by Weston-Super-Mare.
