Saturday's Blue Square South Wrap

Lewes closed the gap at the top of the Blue Square South table to just one point behind Eastbourne Borough after they demolished bottom-side Sutton Utd 4-0.

The league leaders endured a tougher encounter away at Bath City and were held to a 0-0 draw.

Bath City 0-0 Eastbourne Borough

Bath dropped two places down to sixth in the league after a hard-fought 0-0 draw at home to Eastbourne. The Blue Square South leaders will be looking over their shoulders after a second draw on the trot, with the chasing pack all recording narrow victories this Saturday.

Bishop's Stortford 2-1 Maidenhead Utd

Bishop's Stortford took their time to assert their dominance over Maidenhead Utd at Woodside Park but two second half goals by Craig Edwards and Ahmed Deen after 51 and 78 minutes respectively settled the tie. Dominic Sterling's stoppage time goal was little more than a consolation.

Lewes 4-0 Sutton Utd

Sutton Utd's season shows little signs of improvement after yet another defeat. The bottom club are still with only one win to their name this season but the score-line flattered their opponents. After a goalless first half, Gary Holloway finally opened the scoring on 58 minutes with Leroy Griffiths adding a second just four minutes later. Tom Davis and Matthew Groves both added goals late on in injury time as United's morale visibly disintegrated.

Havant and Waterlooville 0-3 Hampton & Richmond

Hampton & Richmond recorded a good 3-0 victory over Havant and Waterlooville that sees them move up two places to fourth in the Blue Square South. Lawrence Yaku opened the scoring after just 10 minutes with Elliott Godfrey killing the tie off on 88 minutes.

Newport County 3-2 Dorchester

928 fans at the Newport Stadium enjoyed a feast of football as Newport County edged out Dorchester in a five-goal thriller. Craig Hughes scored first for the home side after just six minutes but the lead was short lived as Charlie Henry equalized 17 minutes later. Charlie Griffin restored County's lead on 31 minutes and with Dorchester still recovering, he added his second and the home side's third just a minute later. Jamie Gleeson netted within six minutes of the restart but that was the way it ended with neither side able to keep up the pace they set in the first-half.

Hayes & Yeading 2-4 Eastleigh

Eastleigh raced into a 3-0 first half lead away at Hayes & Yeading this Blue Square South Saturday with goals from Andrew Forbes (4), David Hughes (26) and Chris Piper (27). The home side's woes continued into the second half with Damian Scannell adding a fourth with half an hour remaining. Stafford Palmer did his best to reduce the deficit by netting two on 79 and 84 minute but it wasn't enough with Eastleigh running out 4-2 victors.

Welling 3-1 Bromley

Danny Hockton silenced the 1016 Welling fans inside Park View Road with his goal on the half-hour mark as Bromley overran their hosts to claim the first half in their Blue Square South match this Saturday. But the second half was an entirely different affair as Ellis Green equalised just five minutes after the restart before Andy Pugh grabbed a brace with goals on 51 and 75 minutes to claim all three points.

Braintree Town 2-1 Basingstoke

Braintree emerged victorious from this mid-table clash with Leon Acher netting the winner after 82 minutes. Matthew Warner had opened the scoring for the visitors after seven minutes but Lee Burns was on target after 25 minutes to level the scores before Acher's late winner.

Thurrock 0-0 Fisher Athletic

Fisher Athletic managed to arrest a slide of three losses in a row as they held Thurrock to a nil-nil draw in their Blue Square South encounter on Saturday. Both sides have struggled for consistency this season as their mid-table position would suggest.

St Albans 1-1 Bognor Regis Town

There was little separating St Albans and Bognor Regis Town with the 20 and 21st placed teams playing out a 1-1 draw on Saturday. A late second half equaliser from Jon Stevenson earned the Saints a point after the visitors went ahead through Luke Nightingale's 38th minute strike.

Weston-S-Mare 0-1 Cambridge City

Michael Gash's 42nd minute goal separated these two Blue Square South teams on Saturday. Cambridge have struggled on the road this season with Weston-S-Mare dominant at home with four wins from four.
