Saturday's Blue Square South wrap

League leaders Lewes were beaten at home by relegation-threatened Bognor Regis Town while Eastbourne Borough tasted defeat at the hands of Bishop's Stortford.

Basingstoke 1-5 Fisher Athletic

Fisher Athletic maintained their promotion play-off push with a convincing victory at Basingstoke Town on Saturday afternoon.

The first half ended goalless but Fisher started the second period at a high tempo and broke the deadlock in the 49th minute through Wesley Thomas.

Thomas added his and Fisher's second goal just four minutes later and Kieran Murtagh made it 3-0 on the hour.

The visitors looked to be cruising when Thomas popped up again in the 71st minute to complete an impressive hat-trick and Jeff Goulding added their fifth five minutes later.

Connor Hamilton pulled one back for Basingstoke in the 80th minute but it was nothing more than a consolation goal.

Bishop's Stortford 2-1 Eastbourne borough

Bishop's Stortford claimed all three points at Woodside Park on Saturday thanks to goals from Ahmed Deen and Danny Harris on either half of the break.

Bromley 1-0 Sutton/h4>

Bromley kept their promotion hopes alive with a narrow win over rock-bottom Sutton at Hayes Lane.

Gareth Williams' 42nd minute goal was enough to give the Ravens all three points in this local derby.

Eastleigh 3-1 Dorchester

Eastleigh stormed back from a one-goal deficit to record a comfortable win over struggling Dorchester Town at Silverlake Stadium.

The Magpies claimed a 52nd minute lead through John Docker but Eastleigh responded well and drew level ten minutes later thanks to Paul Sales.

Matthew Hann gave Eastleigh the lead with a 70th minute effort before Sales popped up in the 80th minute to complete his brace.

Lewes 0-1 Bognor Regis Town

The Rooks suffered their only their second home defeat of the season with a plucky Bognor Regis Town side doing just enough to earn a vital win.

Steve King will be wondering how his side failed to make their home advantage count but will be buoyed by the fact that second-placed Eastbourne were also defeated on Saturday.

Luke Nightingale's 50th minute winner has helped his side open a four-point gap on the drop zone as they claim 18th place with 25 points.

Hayes & Yeading 3-1 Havant and Waterlooville

Hayes & Yeading still have an outside chance of clinching a promotion play-off spot after recording a comfortable win over the Hawks at Church Road.

Joshua Scott put the hosts ahead just before the half-time break and James Mulley notched their second goal with a 51st minute effort.

Kieran Knight added their third in the 58th minute, rendering Mo Harkin's 90th minute goal nothing more than a consolation.

Newport County 2-2 Hampton & Richmond

Promotion hopefuls Newport County played to an exciting draw with fellow promotion chasers Hampton & Richmond at Newport Stadium on Saturday.

Forward Charlie Griffith got the home side off to a flying start when he found the back of the net in the 5th minute.

Hampton drew level in the 19th minute thanks to Godfrey's well-placed penalty kick but Craig Hughes restored Newport's lead six minutes later.

Hampton's Orlando Jeffrey restored parity in the 78th minute and the scoreline remained level until the final whistle.

St Albans 0-3 Maidenhead Utd

Maidenhead further distanced themselves from the drop zone with a superb result over relegation-threatened St Albans.

The Magpies claimed the lead after 45 minutes when John Hastings found the back of the net and Manny Williams made it 2-0 four minutes later.

Ashley Smith added Maidenhead's third in the 78th minute as the Saints rarely threatened to reduce the deficit at Clarence Park.

Thurrock 1-0 Bath City

Thurrock continued their climb up the Blue Square South table with a hard-fought win over promotion chasers Bath City.

Fleet had to work hard for the win after midfielder Fola Orilonishe's 45th minute goal but they held firm to record a morale-boosting win.

Welling 2-6 Cambridge City

Football fans were treated to a feast of goals on Saturday afternoon as Cambridge City hammered Welling United at Park View Road.

Cambridge were handed the lead early on when Sonny Cobbs put the ball in his own net and Michael Gash made it 2-0 in the 15th minute.

Welling's Sam Gargan reduced the deficit in the 24th minute but Ashley Fuller restored City's two-goal advantage ten minutes later.

Omari Coleman pulled one back for the Wings on the hour, only for Josh Simpson to make it 4-2 in the 76th minute.

The floodgates were open from that point on as Neil Midgley netted one minute later and Lee Roach rounded off an impressive Cambridge display by scoring in the 90th minute.
