Saturday's Blue Square South wrap

League leaders Eastbourne Borough tasted a rare defeat at the hands of Cambridge City while Eastleigh recorded another win at Silverlake Stadium.

Basingstoke 1-1 Bromley

Bromley's play-off hopes took a denting on Saturday after playing to a draw with Basingstoke Town at Camrose ground.

Scott Fitzgerald put the hosts ahead in the 28th minute but Bromley had an almost instant reply.

Gareth Williams netted the equaliser three minutes later and the scores stayed level for the rest of the match as neither of the two sides could produce the incisive finish.

Bishop's Stortford 2-2 Weston-Super-Mare

The Bishop's scored two second-half goals to clinch the lead but were thwarted by a 76th minute equaliser at Woodside Park.

Weston broke the deadlock in the 31ts thanks to Elvis Ewruje and managed to hold onto their lead until half time.

Loui Fazakerley netted the equaliser for Bishop's Stortford in the 49th minute and claimed the lead in the 63rd courtesy of a Greg Pearson goal.

However, the visitors fought their way back into the game and equalised in the 76th minute through Wilfried Domoraud.

Bognor Regis Town 1-2 Maidenhead Utd

Maidenhead United earned themselves some breathing room in the bottom half of the table with a narrow victory over the Rocks at Nyewood Lane.

The Magpies drew first blood after 15 minutes when Carl Wilson-Denis found the back of the net and they further extended their lead just after the restart thanks to Dominic Sterling.

Scott Chamberlain reduced the deficit for the home side in the 63rd minute but Maidenhead held firm to record a morale-boosting victory.

Braintree Town 1-0 Havant and Waterlooville

Braintree Town kept their play-off dreams alive with a solid performance against the Hawks at Cressing Road.

The Iron still have a number of games in hand and could still clinch a play-off berth by the end of their campaign.

Just over 600 supporters were present on Saturday afternoon and Bradley Quinton's 67th minute finish was enough to help his side earn all three points.

Dorchester 0-0 Sutton Utd

Dorchester Fans will have cause for concern after watching their side play to a goalless draw with fellow strugglers Sutton United.

Both sets of fans will be frustrated with this result as their respective teams have become further embroiled in an impending relegation scrap.

All three teams in the drop zone are currently on 20 points and Welling United, who are in 19th place, hold a four-point lead on the relegation candidates.

Eastbourne Borough 0-1 Cambridge City

Eastbourne supporters must be wondering just what went wrong on Saturday after the league leaders suffered a defeat at the hands of Cambridge City at Priory Lane.

David Theobald scored the solitary goal after 71 minutes and Eastbourne were unable to post a reply before the final whistle.

Eastleigh 3-1 Welling

Eastleigh maintained their promotion play-off spot with a fairly comfortable win over relegation-threatened Welling at Sparshatts Stadium.

Warren McBean opened for the Spitfires after just four minutes of play and Welling's Orlando Smith popped up in the 55th minute with an equaliser.

However, it was all one-way traffic from that point on as Mark Marshall restored Eastleigh's lead ten minutes later and Chris Piper added their third in the 79th minute.

Hampton & Richmond 0-2 Fisher Athletic

Fisher Athletic continued their push for a play-off place with an assured performance against Hampton & Richmond at Beveree Stadium.

Fisher's Shaun Batt was the hero on Saturday as he found the back after just three minutes and bagged his second on the hour.

Promotion hopefuls Hampton & Richmond now find themselves in third place with 53 points and have played 30 fixtures thus far.

St Albans 1-2 Bath City

Bath City strengthened their play-off credentials after coming back from a goal down to beat rock-bottom St Albans on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints opened thanks to a 21st minute goal by Paul Hakim before Bath's Dave Gilroy restored parity with a 46th minute effort.

The match looked to be edging closer to a stalemate but Darren Edwards popped up in the 87th minute to help his side earn all three points at Clarence Park.

Thurrock 2-0 Hayes & Yeading

Thurrock moved up to 12th place on the Blue Square South table on Saturday with a comfortable win over Hayes & Yeading at Ship Lane.

The first goal ended goalless and Thurrock supporters were surely starting to get worried until Matt Bodkin broke the deadlock with a 61st minute goal.

Despite Thurrock taking the lead, Hayes & Yeading continued to fight for a result but saw the game slip out of reach minutes before the final whistle when David Bryant netted the home side's second goal.
