Saturday's Blue Square South Wrap

Hayes & Yeading defeated league leaders AFC Wimbledon on Saturday afternoon to claim pole position on the Blue Square South table.

Basingstoke 1-3 Team Bath

Team Bath moved up to second place after recording a comfortable victory over Basingstoke Town at the Camrose Ground.

The visitors started well and broke the deadlock after 25 minutes thanks to forward Josh Llewellyn but they were unable to double their tally in the first period.

The dragons gave a good account of themselves in the second half but they were unable to stop midfielder Mike Perrott from scoring Team Bath's second in the 78th minute.

The former Melksham Town player popped up again in the 86th minute to net his second of the game before Basingstoke's Welsh midfielder Sam Tucknott pulled one back for the hosts a minute later.

Bath City 1-1 Eastleigh

John Relish's Bath City scored a dramatic late equaliser to earn a share of the spoils with high-flying Eastleigh at Twerton Park.

The Spitfires drew first blood when striker Jamie Brown found the back of the net with a 22nd minute effort.

The visitors struggled to break down an obstinate City defence in the second period and let three points slip through their fingers late.

A lapse of concentration saw on-loan striker Danny Carey-Bertram nip in and steal a point for the home side.

Bognor Regis Town 2-1 Fisher Athletic

Bognor Regis Town gave their fans something to cheer about at Nyewood Lane as they produced a morale-boosting performance to clinch all three points.

The Rocks have been struggling to get their campaign going and have been languishing in the dreaded drop zone with a meager points total.

The home side broke the deadlock after 19 minutes through summer signing Steffan Gaisie and maintained the slender advantage heading into the half-time break.

The Fish rallied in the second period and drew level when forward Jones Awuah fired in a 55th minute effort.

However, the hosts responded well and it was Gaisie who popped up again nine minutes later to put his side in the lead once more.

Braintree Town 2-0 Bromley

Braintree Town earned themselves some breathing room in the bottom half of the table with a comfortable win against Bromley at Cressing Road Stadium.

The Iron went ahead after 36 minutes when striker Gareth Williams found the back of the net and the Welshman was on target again in the 67th minute to double his and Braintree's tally.

Braintree move up to 16th place on the Blue Square South table with eight points from ten fixtures, while Bromley find themselves in 12th place with 12 points.

Havant and W 1-4 Hampton & Richmond

Shaun Gale's Havant and Waterlooville lost ground on the play-off places after slumping to a heavy defeat at West Leigh Park.

The Beavers were in fine fettle on Saturday and it was a sublime team performance that earned them a well-deserved three points.

The visitors went ahead after 15 minutes thanks to 19-year-old striker Ben Wright and doubled their advantage when midfielder Barry Matthews fired home a 47th minute shot.

The hosts pulled one back through striker Craig Watkins on the hour mark but Hampton & Richmond defender John Scarborough restored his side's two-goal advantage in the 75th minute.

Alan Devonshire's side weren't done yet and put the final nail in the coffin in the 81st minute courtesy of defender Ryan Lake.

Hayes & Yeading 2-1 AFC Wimbledon

Garry Haylock's Hayes & Yeading put in a hard working performance against AFC Wimbledon to claim first place on the Blue Square South table on Saturday.

Striker Josh Scott put the hosts ahead with a 24th minute finish but their lead was short-lived as Dons' Canadian-born midfielder Elliott Godfrey restored parity just three minutes later.

However, it was United who had the last say, as forward Scott Fitzgerald scored a vital goal five minutes before the half-time break to help his side record a memorable victory at Church Road.

Maidenhead United 3-2 Bishop's Stortford

Johnson Hippolyte's Maidenhead United maintained their excellent run of form with a hard-fought win over Bishop's Stortford at York Road.

The Magpies got off to a flying start with Ashley Smith firing them ahead after just four minutes but Bishops midfielder Danny Harris restored parity with a 17th minute effort.

Richard Pacquette restored Maidenhead's lead in the 29th minute but the visitors rallied again and drew level thanks to forward Peter Dean.

The hosts reclaimed the lead one minute before full-time thanks to Lee Newman and held their nerve to claim all three points.

Newport County 0-1 St Albans

St Albans City moved closer to a mid-table berth with a narrow victory over strugglers Newport County at Newport Stadium.

The match was short on goalmouth action and it took a penalty to decide the outcome.

Veteran midfielder stepped up to take the spot kick in the 67th minute and coolly slotted home to help his side earn a valuable away victory.

Thurrock 1-0 Dorchester

Thurrock lifted themselves out of the relegation zone with a narrow win against Shaun Brooks' Dorchester Town at Ship Lane.

The first period ended goalless with neither of the two sets of supporters having much to cheer about.

The solitary goal finally came after 66 minutes courtesy of forward Che Stadhart and it means Thurrock now have seven points from 10 fixtures.

Welling 1-3 Worcester

Richard Dryden's Worcester City kept their unbeaten away run intact with a morale-boosting win over Welling at Park View Road.

The visitors broke the deadlock after 36 minutes through striker Marco Adaggio but saw a penalty decision go against them at the other end just a minute later.

Veteran midfielder Rob Quinn stepped up for Welling and made no mistake from the spot to give his side a fighting chance.

The visitors played with purpose after the break and reclaimed the lead in the 56th minute thanks to skipper Craig Wilding.

The striker could not be contained and popped up again in the 84th minute to put the result beyond doubt.

Weston-S-Mare 1-4 Chelmsford

Jeff King's Chelmsford City maintained the pressure on the chasing pack with a massive win over Weston-Super-Mare at Woodspring Stadium.

The visitors started brightly and defender Steve Robinson put them ahead after 22 minutes.

Bertie Brayley added their second four minutes after break and completed a superb brace with his 58th minute effort to make it 3-0.

Midfielder Jon Keeling further extended the Clarets' lead in the 80th minute rendering Welling midfielder Ben Wells' 90th minute goal nothing more than a consolation.
