Saturday's Blue Square South wrap

Maidenhead United hit five goals past a toothless Worcester City side, while Chelmsford City secured top spot in the Blue Square South on Saturday.

Fisher 0-1 Chelmsford

Chelmsford City squeezed past Fisher Athletic at Champion Hill to deservedly claim pole position in the Blue Square South.

With neither side able to break the deadlock in the first-half, the game looked likely to end in a stalemate.

But midfielder Dave Rainford ensured the Clarets would walk away with all the spoils with his effort in the 67th minute.

The result sees the hosts drop down to 20th spot, while City have a slender one-point lead at the summit.

Maidenhead 5-0 Worcester

Maidenhead United ran rampant past a toothless Worcester City side to advance further up the Blue Square South standings.

Midfielder Ashley Nicholls granted the hosts an early lead in just the third minute, before Rocky Baptiste doubled the score seven minutes later.

The visitors had no answer for the Magpies' attacking prowess and went into the half-time interval three goals down after Dale Binns netted on the 37-minute mark.

And the Loyals' woes continued after the break as Richard Pacquette struck twice (59, 72) to ensure that United secured third spot in the league table.

Worcester, meanwhile, have dropped down to ninth position.

Thurrock 1-1 Bognor Regis Town

Strugglers Thurrock and Bognor Regis Town played out a gritty encounter at Ship Lane to earn a share of the spoils.

Striker Tom Clarke opened the scoring in the 40th minute to put the visitors ahead, but their celebrations were short-lived.

Five minutes later, Fleet captain Lee Flynn was on hand to level the scores.

The end of the first-half marked the end of any riveting goalmouth action, which left the Rocks rooted to the bottom of the table, while the hosts climbed up to 17th spot.

St Albans 2-1 Bath City

St Albans came from behind to emerge victorious over Bath City at Clarence Park and move up to seventh spot in the Blue Square South table.

The visitors were granted an early lead courtesy of defender Sekani Simpson in the 13th minute.

However, the hosts came out firing after the break and were rewarded through Simon Martin's equaliser on the 61-minute mark.

Paul Hakim finished off proceedings late on to wrap up all three points for the Saints.

Meanwhile, the defeat leaves the Stripes on 11th spot in the standings.

Newport County 0-0 Welling United

Newport County fought hard to gain a valuable point against Welling United at the Newport Stadium.

Neither side were able to break the deadlock in a gritty encounter, which saw the hosts secure 16th spot in the Blue Square South standings.

The visitors had to settle for a share of the spoils and remain in eighth position.
