Saturday's Blue Square South Wrap

Pacesetters Chelmsford City and Eastleigh both recorded wins on the road while AFC Wimbledon shot up to fourth place in the Blue Square South standings.

Basingstoke 1-1 Bishop's Stortford

Basingstoke Town netted a dramatic late equaliser to earn a share of the spoils with Bishop's Stortford at The Camrose on Saturday afternoon.

The match was closely contested and looked to be heading for a goalless draw with just ten minutes left on the clock.

However, Dwayne Jackman netted an 82nd minute goal to give the Bishops the lead and set up a tense finish.

It looked like perhaps they had done just enough to claim the win, but Basingstoke defender Joe Dolan popped up in the 90th minute to rescue a point for his team.

Bognor Regis Town 0-1 Hampton & Richmond

Hampton & Richmond Borough maintained their recent good run of league form after edging out Bognor Regis Town at Nyewood Lane.

Ben Wright scored the only goal of the game in the 57th minute and the Beavers managed to maintain their slender advantage until the final whistle.

Hampton & Richmond move up to third place in the Blue Square South standings with 35 points from 19 games, while Bognor Regis Town remain at the foot of the table with a disappointing total of 11 points.

Braintree Town 0-4 Bath City

Braintree Town offered very little in the way of resistance as Bath City romped to a massive win at Cressing Road Stadium.

The Romans claimed the lead in the 52nd minute through Darren Edwards and doubled their lead nine minutes later thanks to midfielder Steve Jones.

The floodgates seemed to open, and Edwards found the back of the net again in the 65th minute to make it 3-0.

The former Yate Town striker was a constant thorn in the side of the Braintree defence and completed a superb hat-trick with a 82nd minute effort.

Fisher Athletic 0-2 Bromley

Bromley remain in 10th place in the Blue Square South standings despite recording a comfortable win over Fisher Athletic at Champion Hill.

The Ravens claimed the lead after striker Nic McDonnell found the back of the net in the 22nd minute but they were unable to double their tally before the half-time break.

There were some tense passages of play for the visitors after the break but they held their nerve to double their lead through midfielder Ryan Hall in the 89th minute.

Havant and Waterlooville 1-2 Dorchester

Dorchester Town had just enough gas left in the tank to see off the challenge of Havant and Waterlooville at West Leigh Park.

The visitors broke the deadlock after just six minutes thanks to midfielder Jamie Gleeson and doubled their advantage when forward Jamie Mudge found the back of the net with a 41st minute strike.

The Hawks found it tough going after the break but managed to pull one back through midfielder Brett Poate in the 81st minute.

However, they couldn't find an equaliser with nine minutes left on the clock and Dorchester held on to claim a victory on the road.

After this latest result, Dorchester move up to 16th with 18 points from 17 games, while Shaun's Gale Hawks slip down to 17th with 17 points from 18 fixtures.

Hayes & Yeading 0-1 Eastleigh

Hayes & Yeading gave Eastleigh a good run for their money but were unable to stop their opponents from scraping a win at Church Road.

The match was closely contested and looked to be heading for a goalless draw before defender Tom Jordan popped up in the 86th minute to give his side a late lead.

With not much time left on the clock Eastleigh managed to hold on to claim a valuable three points.

Maidenhead Utd 0-0 Weston-S-Mare

Maidenhead United dropped out of the promotion places on Saturday after being held to a goalless draw by Weston-Super-Mare at York Road.

The Magpies could have claimed third position in the table if they had collected all three points, but will have to be content with just one point instead.

The Seagulls remain in 14th place with 23 points from 19 games.

St Albans 0-2 Worcester

St Albans City lost ground on the chasing pack on Saturday after slumping to a home defeat at the hands of mid-table Worcester City.

The first 45 minutes ended goalless with neither of the two sides able to grab the game by the scruff of the neck.

Worcester edged ahead after 55 minutes through striker Matt Dinsmore and doubled their tally when skipper Craig Wilding found the back of the net in the 62nd minute.

Team Bath 1-2 AFC Wimbledon

AFC Wimbledon claimed fourth position in the Blue Square South standings on Saturday with a fairly comfortable win over Team Bath at Twerton Park.

The Wombles got off to a great start with midfielder Sam Hatton breaking the deadlock with a 15th minute effort.

The visitors doubled their advantage just before the half-time whistle thanks to striker Danny Kedwell and looked good value for their lead.

The hosts rallied in the second period and pulled one back through attacker Shaun Benison in the 82nd minute but it was too little, too late as the Dons held on for the win.

Thurrock 0-0 Newport County

Thurrock and Newport County will have to be content with a share of the spoils after playing to a goalless draw at Ship Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides are inching ever closer to the dreaded relegation zone after this latest result.

Thurrock hold on to 15th place with 22 points from 19 games, while Newport County slip down to 18th position with 17 points from 19 fixtures.

Welling 1-3 Chelmsford

Chelmsford City maintained their four-point lead at the top of the Blue Square South table with a comfortable victory over Welling United at Park View Road.

The first half was frustrating for both sides as chances were few and far between and ended goalless.

However, the game came to life in the 54th minute when Welling striker Charlie Sheringham broke the deadlock.

The visitors responded magnificently and drew level when midfielder Jon Keeling found the back of the net just six minutes later.

Chelmsford continued to pile on the pressure and claimed the lead thanks Dave Rainford's well taken penalty in the 80th minute.

Midfielder Ricky Holmes popped up four minutes later to put the result beyond doubt.
