AFC Wimbledon managed to keep pace with league leaders Chelmsford in a 3-0 victory, while Havant and Waterlooville were the big winners on Boxing Day.
Basingstoke pulled off a massive Boxing Day upset after they secured a 1-0 victory over high-flying Eastleigh.
The relegation battlers were in need of the three points, but looked more likely to secure a draw after the first half ended goalless.
However, defender Sean Hankin was on hand to ensure all the spoils for the Dragons in the 70th minute.
The result sees AFC Wimbledon leapfrog Eastleigh to secure second spot on goal difference.
Welling left it late to collect all three points at the Courage Stadium after going a goal down.
Warren McBean granted the hosts the lead in the 37th minute and they held onto their advantage going into half time.
The Ravens looked like they had secured the win late into the second spell, but Charlie Sheringham's 72nd-minute equaliser inspired a stunning comeback.

Jon Main was the Boxing Day hero for AFC Wimbledon as his hat-trick fired them into second spot against struggling Fisher Athletic.
The striker got the ball rolling in the 22nd minute after making no mistake from the penalty spot.
He doubled the lead on the 39-minute mark to give the Dons a two-goal cushion going into the break.
The Fish failed to come out firing in the second half and Main made sure he got his treble in the 69th minute.
The result leaves the Dons just six points adrift of league leaders Chelmsford, while the hosts are in the dreaded drop zone.
Dave Gilroy led Bath City to a comfortable win over Dorchester Town at the Avenue Stadium.
The forward opened the scoring in the 25th minute, before completing his double on the 39th minute mark.
The hosts were unable to convert any of the chances and it was the visitors who provided more goalmouth action.
The win pushes the Romans up to ninth spot, while the Magpies now occupy 14th spot.
Havant and Waterlooville eradicated any festive cheer at Nyewood Lane as they hammered five goals past Bognor Regis Town.
It was the hosts who enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges and they were rewarded when Louie Castles netted in the third minute.
However, their celebrations were short lived as the Hawks equalised through Jamie Collins from the spot in the 18th minute.
Shaun Gale's charges then took the lead when midfielder Charlie Henry fired them in front after 33 minutes.
Town must have felt they had a chance to get into the game after the half-time interval, but the visitors quashed any such thoughts.
Forward Robbie Matthews added the third on the 70-minute mark, before Ian Simpemba made it 4-1 just three minutes later.
And Luke Nightingale put the icing on the cake in the final minute of the encounter.
The Rocks are still rooted to the bottom of the table, while the Hawks lie in 16th spot.
Midfielder Louis Riddle compounded Bishops Stortford's woes as he inspired Braintree Town to a 2-0 win at Cressing Road Stadium.
The maestro netted the opener from the penalty spot in the 28th minute - a lead which lasted well into the second half.
He then duly slotted home the Iron's second on the 71-minute mark, to leave Bishops uncomfortably just outside the relegation zone.
Hayes & Yeading got the better of their promotion-chasing rivals Maidenhead United courtesy of two second-half strikes.
The first half ended goalless as neither side were able to make the most of their chances.
The hosts waited until the 73rd minute for their opening goal which was netted by Josh Scott, but it was worth the wait as Gary MacDonald added a second just two minutes later.
The teams are level on points, with Hayes & Yeading in seventh place and United in eighth spot.
Battling Newport County earned a gritty and much-needed three points against Worcester City in front of their home fans.
Midfielder Adie Harris' early eighth-minute effort was enough to secure all the spoils in a game starved of goalmouth action.
The Exiles are now 19th in the standings, but are still perilously close to the relegation dogfight.
An own goal helped St Albans share in the spoils against high-flying Hampton & Richmond at Clarence Park.
Paul Hakim fired the hosts in front after 43 minutes to give them the egde going into half time.
The second spell started off rather interestingly with Ryan Lake netting an own goal in favour of the Saints on the 53-minute mark.
But in the same minute Lawrence Yaku managed to pull a goal back for the Beavers.
The hosts looked destined to win the game, but Ian Hodges stole a 78th minute leveller to keep Hampton & Richmond in fourth spot.
Takumi Ake's first-half strike was enough to keep Team Bath in a play-off seating against Weston-Super-Mare.
The midfielder netted on the stroke of half time to make sure the Scholars keep pace with the promotion chasers.
Meanwhile the result leaves the Seagulls in 17th spot.
