Tuesday's Blue Square North & South wrap

Blyth Spartans eased their relegation fears and dented AFC Telford's play-off bid after securing a 2-0 win at Croft Park on Tuesday night.

Forward-pairing Marc Walton and Robert Dale did the damage in the first half, with the latter netting from the penalty spot in the 26th minute to secure the spoils.

The hosts are still third-from-bottom, but can jump out of the mire and move level on points with Redditch United if they win their game in hand.

Meanwhile, Southport ran riot at Haig Avenue and hit three answered goals past drop-zone candidates Burscough.

It was a well-worked team effort by the hosts as defender Adam Flynn, midfielder Matty McGinn and striker Allan Smart all got on the scoresheet for the promotion chasers.

The Lambs are now just three points behind leaders Gateshead, having played three games less.

Stafford Rangers and Workington played out a goalless draw at Marston Road to wrap up the Blue Square North action.

In the South sphere, Hayes & Yeading continued their rise up the standings as Josh Scott's 59th-minute penalty was enough to see off Braintree Town.

Third-placed United are now just four points behind second-seated Hampton & Richmond, while the Beavers occupy 13th spot.

Dorchester got the better of Havant and Waterlooville in a bottom-of-the-table battle. Jamie Gleeson's 33rd minute effort ensured maximum points for the hosts, who lie one position ahead of the Hawks in 18th.

Weston-S-Mare halted Team Bath's push for a play-off place with an unexpected 2-1 away win.

Marvin Brown opened the scoring for the visitors just before half-time, but Marc Canham immediately levelled the scores.

Midfielder Marc McGregor then made sure the game would not be heading for a stalemate when he netted the winner after 54 minutes.
