Saturday's Blue Square South Wrap

Newport County capitalised on Dover and Basingstoke's respective slip ups to go top of the Blue Square South with a 2-0 victory over Welling.

Craig Reid's brace was enough to send the Exiles top after he grabbed his first in the 20th minute before cooly slotting away a penalty in the 67th.

Dover were beaten away to Havant and Waterlooville after they went down 2-1 at West Leigh Park. A Manny Williams double gave his side a 2-0 lead at the half-time break and the Hawks managed to hold on for the victory despite a 66th minute reply from Dover's Adam Birchall.

Basingstoke failed to take full advantage of Dover's loss when they played out a bore 0-0 draw at Lewes. The Dragons would have gone top with a win but will take solace in the fact that they are now are in second spot in the league by virtue of goal difference.

Bath City notched up the result of the day when they thrashed Bishop's Stortford 5-1 at Woodside Park. A brace a piece for Kaid Mohamed and Darren Edwards compounded The Bishops' worries and Charlie Sheringham's 38th minute strike was nowhere near enough for Mark Simpson's men.

Worcester lifted themselves off the bottom of the league when they hammered Dorchester 4-0 at St George's Lane. All the goals came in the first half courtesy of a Matt Dinsmore brace, Alfie Carter and Rob Elvins. Carter had opened the scoring as early as the third minute before Dinsmore completed his double followed by Elvins scoring the fourth and final goal in the 39th minute.

Weston-super-Mare dropped into the relegation zone after they went down 2-1 to Braintree Town infront of their home fans at Woodsprung Stadium. The Seagulls took the lead in the 35th minute courtesy of a Darren Mullings strike but after George Purcell drew level in the 43rd minute the visitors took the ascendancy and grabbed the winner through Purcell once more in the 80th minute.
