Boxing Day Blue Square South Wrap

Strugglers Lewes pulled off the shock of the weekend with a massive victory over high-flying Dover, while Chelmsford moved up to third place with a narrow win against Thurrock.

Chelmsford City shot up to third place in the Blue square South standings with a hard-fought victory over Thurrock at Melbourne Stadium.

The first half ended goalless and the match looked to be heading for a goalless draw, but defender Ben Martin popped up with a 90th minute goal to snatch all three points.

Eastleigh sent out a warning to the rest of the league with a massive victory over mid-table Basingstoke Town at Silverlake Stadium.

And it was a real team effort as Anthony Riviere, Peter Adeniyi, Brett Poate, Andy Forbes, Richard Gillespie and Jamie White all found the back of the net.

Hampton & Richmond Borough find themselves hovering just above the relegation zone after slumping to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Staines Town.

Ali Chaaban drew first blood for the visitors with a 21st minute strike and fellow forward Richard Butler doubled their advantage when he found the back of the net in the 62nd minute.

The Beevers were handed a way back into the contest on 69 minutes when Barrie Matthews slotted home from the penalty spot.

However, it was not to be as Chaaban picked up his second of the afternoon in the 75th minute and Howard Newton made sure of the result three minutes later.

Lewes gave their supporters a belated Christmas gift with a convincing win against Dover Athletic at the Dripping Pan.

Dover made the perfect start to the match as goals from James Rogers and Francis Collin put them in a comfortable lead after just 13 minutes of play.

However, it was all one-way traffic in Lewes' favour after that. Midfielder Joe Keehan scored a hat-trick for the hosts, while David Wheeler and Steve Brinkhurst chipped in with one apiece.

Defender Olly Schulz put the ball in his own net in the 41st minute to add to Dover's woe.
