Saturday's Blue Square Bet South Wrap

Blue Square Bet South favourites Havant & Waterlooville played out to a disappointing 2-2 draw against Dartford on the opening day of the season.

Danny Harris gave the Ryman champions a surprise lead in the 26th minute, but the Hawks managed to get back on level terms just before the break as Bobby Hopkinson netted from the spot.

Wes Fogden's goal two minutes before the final whistle seemed the have given his side the victory, however, Dartford refused to throw in the towel and they were awarded an injury-time penalty.

Ryan Hayes stepped up and cooly slotted the ball home to give his side a share of the spoils.

Chelmsford got off to winning ways with a valuable 3-2 away victory over Basingstoke.

Glenn Pennyfather's charges took the early advantage as Matthew Lock opened the scoring in the 17th minute.

But just three minutes later the home side were back on level terms as Robert Rice netted an equaliser.

John Martin put the Clarets back in front in the 66th minute and Billy Bricknell wrapped up the three points with 15 minutes to play.

Mark Pattison found the back of the net for the home side in the 90th minute, but it proved to be nothing but a consolation goal.

Braintree Town got there season off to an exciting start as they convincingly overcame Farnborough in a 3-0 home victory.

Strikes from Adam Bailey-Dennis, Sean Marks and Sam Lechmere gave the Iron the three points.

Maidenhead United beat Ebbsfleet United 2-1 at Stonebridge Road to sound a warning to their Blue Square Bet South rivals.

Kieron St Aimie opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 61st minute, but his side's lead was short-lived as Calum Willock evened things up just two minutes later.

Martel Powell then snatched victory for the visitors when he found the back of the net with about 10 minutes remaining on the clock.

Meanwhile, Elliott Grant Charles' second-half strike was enough to give Dover a 1-0 away win over Woking.
