Saturday's Blue Square South Preview

With five Blue Square South games lined up for Saturday afternoon, Newport County will be looking to close the gap on league leaders Eastbourne Borough.

Basingstoke v Welling

Basingstoke Town will be looking to extend their unbeaten run when Welling visit the Camrose Ground on Saturday.

Dragons boss Francis Vines has the luxury of a fully-fit squad to choose from as he hopes to steer his side closer to a promotion play-off spot.

Striker James Taylor has recovered from a broken foot and could make another substitutive appearance after playing 25 minutes against Havant and Waterlooville.

"The guys are buzzing at the moment and now we have got a couple of good results we will be looking to build on that," Vines told the Basingstoke Gazette.

"I want three points on Saturday because that would take us past 20 points, which is a nice landmark."

Blue SQ have given the visiting side odds of 10/1 on a 2-1 victory.

Bognor Regis Town v Cambridge City

Bognor Regis currently find themselves in the relegation zone and will be determined to collect all three points when Cambridge City visit Nyewood Lane.

This will be an interesting encounter as Cambridge are also struggling at the moment but managed to bag a point against league leaders Eastbourne in midweek.

Cambridge boss Gary Roberts will hand late tests to Ashley Fuller and Lee Roache who are struggling to shake off respective knocks.

Mark E'Beyer will be back in the squad for the Bognor trip and Roberts could be tempted to make one or two changes.

Blue SQ have odds of 11/1 on Cambridge winning this one 2-0.

Braintree Town v Dorchester Town

The Iron will have new manager Lee Patterson at the helm on Saturday afternoon when struggling Dorchester Town travel to Cressing Road Stadium.

Andy Porter is set to make his debut after returning to the club earlier this week while club captain Brad Quinton has been offered the role of assistant manager.

Braintree Chairman Lee Harding had this to say: "Lee is someone we've had our eye on for a few years now.

"He's made great progress at East Thurrock and we're delighted that he has chosen to join us."

Midfielder James Rowe and striker Elliot Bent return to contention for Dorchester but Terry Parker misses out again as he continues his recovery from a hernia injury.

Blue SQ have given the home side odds of 13/2 on a 1-0 victory.

Fisher Athletic v Newport County

The Fish are currently mid-table with 19 points and a victory at Champion Hill Stadium against Newport County could see them come close to a promotion play-off place.

18-year-old midfielder Kieran Murtagh and 23-year-old left-back Gilbert Nuako are available to make their debuts after joining the club in midweek.

Newport meanwhile, currently find themselves in fifth place with 22 points and will be focused on closing the gap on leaders Eastbourne.

Blue SQ have odds of 7/1 on the visiting side winning 1-0.

St Albans v Weston-Super-Mare

Dave Anderson's St Albans squad will be desperate to collect all three points when Weston-Super-Mare make the trip to Clarence Park.

The Saints are a the wrong end of the table after a dismal start tot he season and a win could potentially see them move out of the drop zone.

The Seagulls have fared better than their opponents this season and are currently in 10th place with 19 points.

Blue SQ have given the home side odds of 9/1 on a 2-1 victory.
