Saturday's Blue Square South Preview

Lewes hold a six-point lead over second-placed Easbourne Borough while Barrow will be looking to break into the promotion play-off places after recording an 8-1 win on Boxing Day.

Bishop's Stortford v Cambridge City

Martin Hayes' Bishop's Stortford will be looking to return to winning ways when Cambridge City visit Woodside Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Bishop's lost out to Braintree Town in a seven-goal thriller on Boxing Day and the promotion hopefuls need to get a good result here to keep pace with the rest of the chasing pack.

Cambridge manager Gary Roberts steered his side to a comfortable 2-0 win over St Albans on Wednesday and another away win would give them some breathing room in the bottom half of the table.

Blue SQ have odds of 13/2 on the match ending in a 1-1 draw.

Bognor Regis Town v Basingstoke

The Rocks will hand a late fitness test to Sam Gargan ahead of the visit of high-flying Basingstoke to Nyewood Lane on Saturday.

Gargan missed the Boxing Day derby match against Havant & Waterlooville with a hamstring injury and could miss out again.

Basingstoke currently find themselves in fourth place with 35 points but trail league leaders Lewes by 12 points.

Blue SQ have given the visitors odds of 8/1 on a 2-1 victory.

Bromley v Fisher Athletic

Bromley will be looking to end their year on a high note when Fisher Athletic make the trip to Hayes Lane on Saturday afternoon.

The Ravens knocked eight goals past Thurrock on Boxing Day and will undoubtedly be in good spirits heading into this encounter.

The Fish returned to winning ways with a hard-fought victory over Welling on Boxing Day and will be focused on getting another good result on the road.

Blue SQ have odds of 13/2 on the match ending in a 1-1 draw.

Dorchester v Newport County

Relegation-threatened Dorchester are in desperate need of points at the moment and they will need to work their socks off when Newport visit the Avenue Stadium.

"We are looking to make the Avenue Stadium a fortress," Dorchester assistant manager Paul Compton told the Western Gazette.

"It is that extra ten per cent we need from the players and they have shown it in bundles."

Newport County will hand a late fitness test to Jason Bowen after he missed the 2-2 draw with Weston-super-Mare through illness.

Blue SQ have given the visiting side odds of 8/1 on a 2-1 win.

Eastleigh v Eastbourne Borough

The Spitfires can expect a stern test when Eastbourne Borough travel to Silverlake Stadium this weekend.

Eastleigh battled to a 1-1 draw with fellow promotion chasers Basingstoke on Wednesday and will be quietly confident heading into this encounter.

Eastbourne meanwhile, played to a thrilling 2-2 draw at league leaders Lewes on Boxing Day and will also fancy their chances of collecting all three points on Saturday afternoon.

Darren baker and Scott Ramsay started the Boxing Day clash on the bench with question marks over their fitness and the duo will be pushing for starting berths this weekend.

Blue SQ have odds of 12/1 on the match ending in a 2-2 draw.

Hampton & Richmond v Hayes & Yeading

The Beavers will be looking to close the gap on second place with a good result against Hayes & Yeading on Saturday afternoon.

Hampton hold third place with 36 points and have played 19 matches thus far, while Hayes & Yeading occupy a mid-table place with 28 points from 20 games.

Blue SQ have given the home side odds of 13/2 on a 1-0 win.

Lewes v Havant and Waterlooville

The Rooks will be looking to further extend their lead at the top of the Blue Square South table this weekend when Havant and Waterlooville travel to the Dripping Pan.

Lewes played to an exciting 2-2 draw with Eastbourne on Boxing Day to maintain their six-point lead at the top of the pile.

League top scorer Paul Booth has been in red-hot form for Lewes of late and will certainly be the dangerman for Havant to watch.

The Hawks currently occupy 12th place on the table with 27 points but have played only 18 fixtures thus far.

Blue SQ have odds of 12/1 on Lewes winning this encounter 3-0.

Maidenhead Utd v Sutton Utd

The Magpies will be focused on returning to winning ways when rock-bottom Sutton United visit York Road.

Maidenhead suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Hayes & Yeading on Boxing Day and now find themselves in 16th place with 21 points.

Struggling Sutton have clinched the loan signing of striker Luke Maskell from Blue Square Premier outfit Ebbsfleet United and the youngster is expected to make his debut for the U's on Saturday.

Blue SQ have given the hosts odds of 13/2 on a 2-0 win.

St Albans v Braintree Town

The Saints find themselves at the wrong end of the table as they prepare for the visit of Braintree Town to Clarence Park.

Dave Anderson's squad are second from bottom and win will do their confidence a world of wonder.

Braintree Town Manager Lee Patterson steered his side to an exciting Boxing Day victory over neighbours Bishop's Stortford and will be focused on collecting all three points again.

Blue SQ have given the visitors odds of 8/1 on a 2-1 win.

Welling v Thurrock

The Wings are dangerously close to the dreaded drop zone after a Boxing Day defeat and three points against Thurrock on Saturday will be the priority for Neil Smith's men.

Welling lost 1-0 to Fisher on Wednesday and now occupy 18th place with 20 points from 21 fixtures.

Their opponents this weekend are in a similar position with just one point and one place separating them on the Blue Square South table.

Blue SQ have odds of 11/1 on the match ending in a goalless draw.

Weston-S-Mare v Bath City

The Seagulls play host to Bath City at Woodspring Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they look to open up a bigger gap on the relegation places.

They face a stern test though, as the Romans are flying high in fifth place with 34 points from 20 fixtures.

Blue SQ have given the visitors odds of 9/1 on a 2-1 victory.
