Tuesday's Blue Square South Preview

There's a full compliment of Blue Square South fixtures lined up for Tuesday afternoon and table-topping Lewes will head into the new year with a six-point lead.

Basingstoke v Eastleigh

Basingstoke will be looking to maintain their promotion play-off place with a good result against Eastleigh at the Camrose Ground.

The Dragons could only manage a draw at Bognor Regis Town on Saturday and currently occupy fifth place with 36 points.

Eastleigh slipped down to ninth place on the weekend after suffering a defeat at the hands of high-flying Eastbourne Borough.

The Spitfires will have to make do without winger Damian Scannell after the completion of his transfer to League One club Southend United.

Bath City v Dorchester

Bath City claimed fourth place on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 win at Weston-Super-Mare and they will be keen start their year with a good result against the Magpies.

Dorchester, meanwhile, will be intent on ending a dismal run of form which has seen them go for 15 weeks without a win in the Blue Square South.

Braintree Town v Bishop's Stortford

The Iron play host to Bishop's Stortford at Cressing Road on New Year's Day and they can expect a stern test.

The Bishops coasted to a convincing 4-0 victory over Cambridge City at the weekend and will undoubtedly be in high spirits heading into the new year.

Braintree currently find themselves in 10th place with 31 points from 21 fixtures while Bishop's Stortford occupy sixth place with 35 points.

Cambridge City v St Albans

Manager Gary Roberts will be keen for his Cambridge City squad to bounce back from a disappointing result at the weekend and claim all the points at home.

Cambridge put in a dismal performance on Boxing Day and Roberts has revealed that he will hand a start to striker Tom Youngs for this encounter.

Strikers Richard Butler and Daniel Chillingworth missed their Boxing Day match through injury and will face late tests ahead of Tuesday's match.

Defender Jomo Faal-Thomas was also missing due to family reasons and is expected to reclaim a place in defence.

Eastbourne Borough v Lewes

Eastbourne Borough will have the chance to reduce Lewes' lead at the top for their first match of the new year.

The Sports trail their opponents by six points but have two games in hand. A win at Langley Sports Club will certainly give Eastbourne a psychological edge heading into the second half of the campaign.

Lewes will have to make do without the services of full back Lewis Hamilton after he suffered a freak injury.

Hamilton faces several weeks on the sidelines after falling off a ladder and through a glass table whilst trying to erect a plasma screen TV. The youngster damaged a number of tendons in his right arm in the fall, and had to undergo emergency surgery.

Fisher Athletic v Welling

Wayne Burnett's Fisher Athletic play host to strugglers Welling United at Champion Hill Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

The Fish are currently in a mid-table berth with 30 points and managed to edge Welling by a single goal in their last encounter, on Boxing Day.

Havant and W v Bognor Regis Town

The Hawks will be looking to return to winning ways when struggling Bognor Regis Town make the trip to Westleigh Park.

Havant slumped to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of leaders Lewes on Saturday afternoon as they were unable to contain the league's most potent attacking force.

Hayes & Yeading will be looking to break into the top half of the table with a good result against Maidenhead at Church Road on New Year's Day.

Midfielder Ram Marwa made his loan move from St Albans City a permanent one over the festive period and he is expected to start against the Magpies.
