Tuesday's North and South preview

Play-off hopefuls Barrow play host to Blue Square North champions Kettering Town on Tuesday night while Bath City welcome mid-table Thurrock to Twerton Park in the Blue Square South.

Blue Square North

Barrow AFC v Kettering Town

Barrow clinched a promotion play-off spot on Saturday and will be looking to solidify their position when league champions Kettering Town visit Holker Street.

The Bluebirds put five goals past Redditch United to move up to fifth place on the Blue Square North table while the Poppies edged out play-off chasers Southport at Haig Avenue.

Tuesday's tie promises to attract a bumper crowd and Kettering will need to produce more of their title-winning form if they wish to come away with a good result.

Kettering boss Mark Cooper is expected to recall Tommy Jaszczun after the veteran defender missed the Saturday's victory.

Mark Rawle and Kevin Spencer are long-term absentees while Jon Brady and David Bridges are on the treatment table once again.

Blyth Spartans v Solihull Moors

Blyth and Solihull find themselves in the same boat and at the wrong end of the table ahead of Tuesday night's crunch clash.

The Spartans hammered Worcester City 6-0 on Saturday and will certainly be in a confident mood as they prepare for the visit of Solihull, who are on the same points tally of 43.

The Moors recorded a 1-1 draw with Workington on Saturday and now hold a six-point gap over the dreaded relegation zone.

Southport v Alfreton Town

Play-off hopefuls Southport welcome Alfreton Town to Haig Avenue on Tuesday night for their penultimate home match of the campaign.

This will be Gary Brabin's second match in charge after a narrow defeat to league leaders Kettering Town.

Central defender Matt Hocking is a major doubt after picking up a calf strain while winger Mark Duffy faces a late fitness test.

Rodney Jack is nursing a bruised foot but could still play some part in this crucial fixture.

Alfreton travel to Southport for their last away game of the season and do so with the knowledge that their league safety has already been secured.

Reds manager Nicky Law has injury casualties with Jordan Hall (hamstring), Mark Barnard (hamstring) and Rob Pacey (ankle) all definitely out.

Also missing will be Josh Law who is under doctors orders after suffering concussion at Barrow a week last Saturday.

Laurie Wilson is expected to return to the squad after an ankle injury.

Workington AFC v Burscough

Darren Edmondson's Workington play host to Burscough at Borough Park on Tuesday night as they look open a bigger gap on the drop zone.

The Reds have virtually sealed their safety with just a handful of games left while Burscough seem to have narrowly missed out on the play-off places.

Edmondson is boosted by the return of skipper Kyle May, who has recovered quite speedily from a knee injury.

Blue Square South

Bath City v Thurrock

Bath City will aim to capitalise on their outside chance of claiming a play-off spot when they welcome mid-table Thurrock to Twerton Park.

John Relish's charges will be buoyed by their gritty performance against second-placed Eastbourne Borough which earned them a point at Priory Lane.

The mentor told This Is Bath: "They are a funny side, Thurrock.

"We beat them in the Trophy early on and they didn't show a lot, but then they beat us at their place in the league.

"They've had some good wins and it will be a tough game, but we've got to win it."

Strike duo Darren Edwards and Jason Wood are unlikely to recover from their hamstring niggles in time for the clash, but will be handed late fitness tests while Chris Holland is rated doubtful with a new injury.

The visitors will aim to secure a top ten finish after their slim chance of reaching a play-off place was dashed by Fisher on Saturday.

Cambridge City v Newport

A high-spirited Cambridge City side will attempt to starve off Newport County's play-off attempts when they entertain Peter Beadle's men at the City Ground.

The Lilywhites will be a rejuvenated camp after their 5-1 drubbing of Weston-S-Mare on the weekend and will look to hat-trick hero Charlie Sheringham to continue firing up front.

Gary Roberts told the club's official website:We have Newport County here on Tuesday evening and everyone knows they are in the frame for a play-off place.

"They are a big strong, experienced outfit and really should be up there bearing in mind the size of their club and the personnel at their disposal.

"I'm sure Peter Beadle will have them fired up, but he knows we are a dangerous team to play in the current situation.

"They were a bit fortunate to get the 4-1 result at their place in January and our lads will be keen to reverse that. We missed a hatful of chances that night and had we taken them we would have got a point.

Joe Bruce (ankle) is doubtful for the hosts while Scott Neilson is expected to start following high praise from the City boss.

Meanwhile Peter Beadle told the South Wales Argus:"We've got to go to Cambridge and do exactly the same as we've been doing.

"They'll be on a high after beating Weston 5-1 and it'll be a tough game.

"We'll need the same vocal support that we had on Saturday and if we put in the same effort then I'm sure we'll get the win we deserve."

Lee Fowler (hamstring) will miss the clash for the Exiles while Richard Evans remains doubtful.
