Saturday's Blue Square South Preview

Second-placed Maidenhead will meet top-of-the-table Chelmsford at York Road on Saturday while Braintree Town and Weston-super-Mare battle it out in mid-table.

Maidenhead United v Chelmsford City

Maidenhead face Chelmsford at York Road on Saturday.

With the Clarets sitting on top of the table, and the Magpies just beneath them, the competition is sure to be fierce in what may be a season defining fixture for both of these clubs.

Chelmsford come to the game on the back of a magnificent 3-2 victory over A.F.C. Wimbledon at Melbourne stadium last Saturday.

City will be without the services of Greg Oates, as he continues to struggle with a serious injury. Defenders Ian Cousins and Chris Duffy will undergo fitness tests to see if they can make a contribution to the game. The Clarets will also have a new card up there sleeve as promising striker Manny Williams has returned from a brief spell at Woking.

United have won five of their last six games. In their last two games they have scored seven goals and conceded none.

But the Clarets are also full of confidence. The game should be a cracker.

Bath City v Bromley

Bromley will be making the trip west from Kent to take on Bath City at Twerton Park on Saturday.

Bromley had a busy summer, with a whole host of new signings streaming into Hayes Lane. Manager Mark Goldberg, currently in his second spell with the club, secured a number of capable players and the Ravens seemed a team to watch.

But despite all the activity during the summer, Bromley only managed to take a solitary point from their first two matches. They bounced back with two wins in succession against Havant & Waterlooville and Eastleigh but then a slew of injuries and suspensions seemed to derail the team's progress, depite the signing of several players on a non-contractual basis.

A financial crisis followed soon therafter and then a budget cut led to a mass exodus of players.

As they continue to haemmorage personnel, Bromley have won only one of their last six matches (an impressive victory over current league leaders Chelmsford City) and sit at 14th on the table.

Bath come into the game having won their last league game against Weston Super Mare. The Romans are sitting at mid table and will be keen to push on and challenge for a place in the top four.

Braintree Town v Weston-super-Mare

Braintree Town take on Weston-super-Mare on Saturday at Cressing Road Stadium.

Both teams are sitting at the midway point on the table with the Seagulls sitting just below the Iron at 13th.

The Iron have been solid in defence this season, with five clean sheets a testament to the cohesion at the back. They have only lost two games thus far this season, compared to five for their opponents.

Weston will be dissapointed by last week's loss to Bath. A silly defensive error gifted the Romans all three points. It was the second game in which the Seagulls seemed to self-destruct. They will be keen to steady the ship this weekend.

Hampton and Richmond Borough v Worcester

Hampton and Richmond Borough play host to Worcester at the Beveree on Saturday.

The Beavers will be hoping to take all three points from the game, a tally that would see them move into the top five on the table, level with Hayes & Yeading and one above St Albans.

The Royals are only three points behind their opponents and will be keen to close the gap and build some momentum. However, they could not overcome Welling United last week despite home advantage.

The Beavers lost to Eastleigh last weekend in appalling conditions and will also want to get back to winning ways soon.

Newport County v Hayes and Yeading

Newport County, currently sitting at a lowly 18th position on the log, play host to Hayes and Yeading on Saturday at the Newport Stadium.

Newport will be without Kevin Cooper and Martyn Giles after the two men both received red cards against Basingstoke last weekend. The Exiles still managed to hang on for a point against the Dragons and they will take some comfort in that.

United come into the game having beaten Havant & Waterlooville 2-1 last week.

St Albans v Fisher Athletic

St Albans will look to continue their bid for a place in the play-off zone as they take on a struggling Fisher side at Clarence Park.

The Saints notched up a victory over Bromley last weekend, with Paul Hakim scoring twice. The win was their sixth league victory in a row but came at a price, with Simon Martin being stretchered off and Hakim aggravating a knee injury. Neither player is likely to feature on the weekend.

The Fish were thumped by Thurrock three goals to none in a one sided game last Saturday.

Thurrock v Basingstoke

Thurrock face off against Basingstoke at Ship Lane on Saturday.

Thurrock scored three goals against Fisher last weekend, conceding none in the process. They are currently at 16th on the table.

Basingstoke have kept two clean sheets in their last two games, with manager Frank Gray succesfully employing a new 3-5-2 formation.

However, a goalless draw against Newport County last weekend was not enough to lift them out of the the relegation zone.

Welling United v Eastleigh

Welling United come up against Eastleigh on Saturday at Park View Road.

The Wings, currently at 8th on the table, did well to secure a win away at Worcester City last weekend, with James Baker finding the net in the 32nd minute with a neat strike.

The Spitfires picked up their first league win in four games on the weekend, with a well deserved 2-1 victory over a Hampton & Richmond side who were unbeaten in seven league games.

They will be keen to build on this win and climb higher up the table from their current standing at ninth.
