Saturday's Blue Square South Preview

Table-topping Braintree Town host Havant & Waterlooville as they look to continue their flying start to the season.

The Iron are yet to be beaten this season, racking up three wins and a draw thus far while scoring a healthy nine goals.

But they'll face a stern test from the visitors, who have enjoyed a solid start themselves with two wins and two draws from four matches.

Chelmsford City boss Glenn Pennyfather has received a pre-match boost ahead of his squad's trip to Newport County with news that two of his youngest talents have tied themselves to the club, striker Rob Edmans and defender Mark Haines penning long-term contracts.

Glenn was excited with the deals, telling the club's website: "It's fantastic to see the two young lads put pen to paper for us."

City will have a number of absentees from their squad, with Simon Glover, Danny Bunce and Ollie Berquez sidelined.

Anthony Cook and Danny Hockton are back in action, while Ben Martin is on the road to recovery.

Newport have not lost this season and will be hoping that trend continues on Saturday afternoon.

Basingstoke play host to Maidenhead United knowing that a victory will stretch their unbeaten run to five matches.

However, Joe Dolan is suspended, while Adam Aimable is sidelined by an ankle injury, leaving manager Frank Gray with a selection headache.

Lewis Christon, Craig Smith and Matt Warner are all pushing for places in the starting lineup and could ease some of the pressure on Gray.

Maidenhead boss Johnson Hippolyte faces an injury crisis at the back with Jamal Fyfield, Nevin Saroya, Tom Baddeley and Sam Collins all unavailable.

Brandon Martin may get the nod but he is untried at this level, while new signing Kieran Knight will be looking for a starting berth.

Dover will be looking to keep their fantastic start to the season going when they entertain Weston-Super-Mare.

Athletic are unbeaten, having picked up eight points from their opening four matches.

The Seagulls, however, have made a very poor start to the campaign, picking up just one point out of a possible 12.

Thurrock are another side who have been in excellent form so far and they play host to an Eastleigh side who have had a mixed first four matches.

The Fleet are unbeaten and have eight points to their name, while the Spitfires have won two and lost two.

Eastleigh manager Ian Baird told the Southern Daily Echo ahead of the match: "Thurrock are like any other side who start the season well - there's an air confidence about them.

"They carry a lot of threats, particularly in the two wide positions.

"Matt Bodkin, who was with us last season (on loan from Grays Athletic), is a danger.

"When he was at Eastleigh he showed good ability, but he wasn't starting for us and he decided to go back to Grays.

"I would like to have kept him because he did okay, but that's water under the bridge now. We've got Tony Taggart - albeit that he can't play tomorrow (suspension) - and Shaun McAuley out wide and I think they're better than Matt."

In a match at the bottom of the table, both Weymouth and Worcester City will be hoping to pick up their first victory of the season at the Wessex Stadium.

The Terras will be without Joe Arnold due to an injury, but Jake Reid and Matt Cooper are likely to start in attack in any case.

Loyals manager Richard Dryden is hoping for another good performance against the Terras as his side look to move off the bottom of the table.

He told Worcester News: "If we turn up and play like we did on Monday, we have got a great chance of winning the game.

"But if it's more like the Bromley and St Albans performances, we will get turned over.

"We have got to have a positive attitude and take the game to them.

"We have chopped and changed our squad and system and Weymouth have done the same thing.

"They went to Maidenhead on Tuesday and got a point so they might be buzzing a little bit.

"A lot has been made of the goals they have conceded but sometimes you are as good as your last game.

"It will be a totally different side to the one from their two beatings at home so it's hard to judge who they will put out."
