Friday's Blue Square South Preview

Dean Holdsworth's Newport County will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the table with another home victory on New Year's day.

The Exiles currently boast an impressive 13 point lead at the top of the pile and will play host to strugglers Worcester City at Newport Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Fifth-placed Dover Athletic prepare for the visit of relegation-threatened Lewes to Perry's Crabble Stadium as they aim to strengthen their play-off position.

The Whites have already played 24 games this season, with sixth-placed Basingstoke trailing them by two points and with three games in hand.

Rock-bottom Weymouth will be targeting all three points when local rivals Dorchester Town make the trip to the Wessex Stadium.

The Terras have won just two games this season, while the Magpies find themselves languishing in 17th place with 22 points from 22 games.

Third-placed Woking will have the chance to claim second place in the league standings when 15th-placed Havant & Waterlooville visit Kingfield Stadium.

The Cardinals trail second-placed Chelmsford by just one point and will claim second position even if they are held to a draw by Shaun Gale's Hawks, due to a superior goal difference.

Meanwhile, the big game of the weekend kicks off at Ship Lane on Saturday afternoon when Thurrock entertain fellow promotion hopefuls Chelmsford City.

Thurrock currently occupy fourth place with 38 points, while Chelmsford sit in second place with 40 points from 23 fixtures.

"Newport should easily go 16 points clear tomorrow.

Keep up the good work and hope we can beat York in the cup. "
