Danny Kedwell
AFC Wimbledon turned on the style on Boxing Day to ensure that the festive spirit was felt by the home fans at Kingsmeadow in a 5-0 romp over Hayes & Yeading.
The writing was on the wall after 17 minutes, which saw a Danny Kedwell double and a stunner from Luis Cumbers gift the Wombles a three-goal advantage.
Jon Main also got his name on the scoresheet with a brace on a day the visitors will try hard to forget.
Kedwell got things underway in the sixth minute after converting a long ball past Hayes and Yeading goalkeeper Simon Overland.
Cumbers, who was handed a rare Blue Square Premier start, then punished a poor corner clearance by hitting a pearler from 25-yards out, to double the lead.
Kedwell was back in action and met Main's cross from the right to put the game out of sight for the visitors.
Just when the travelling contingent thought it couldn't get worse for their side, Main added the fourth after 31 minutes, before Justin Cochrane received his marching orders for a badly-timed tackle.
After the break, it was a matter of damage control for United, who were relieved to see just one more goal hit past Overland. Confusion between the stopper and defender Tom Cadmore saw Main roll the ball in the back of the net from an acute angle.
The victory marked AFC Wimbledon's sixth straight win, which has fired them back into the play-off zone.
