Hayes and Yeading boss Gary Haylock expects a battling display from his charges when they clash with Oxford at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday.
Haylock admits his team lacked aggression in last Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Luton Town and hopes to see more commitment against the Yellows.
"They've got to be stronger than that and they know it because we talked about it before the game and during the week, but we haven't coped with it," he told the Uxbridge Gazette.
"Sometimes you've got to be in the situation to cope with it."
He added: "Oxford are a good side but not unbeatable. We've got to go and stand up to them and hopefully keep a clean sheet, be more positive and take our chances."
The visitors will be boosted by the return of Steve Basham who was ineligible against his parent club (Luton) on the weekend.
The 32-year-old striker will be tasked with leading the line as Scott Fitzgerald remains sidelined with knee ligament damage.
Meanwhile, Oxford boss Chris Wilder will be without Anthony Tonkin (suspension) and Kev Sandwith (cracked rib) for the clash yet believes he has adequate cover.
"It's unfortunate for Kev because he would have come straight into the side, but we have a squad that can cope," he said on the U's official website.
"Jake Wright has played plenty of games at left back and I have seen him have some very good games there when we were at Halifax.
"And we also have Simon Clist who played there for much of the season when Barnet won this division. I would have no problem playing either of them there."
Lewis Chalmers could make his debut since arriving on loan from Aldershot, while James Constable should be back from injury.
"Beano is getting closer and joined in training yesterday so he won't be a million miles away. Alfie Potter trained for the first time as well and Adam Murray is back in full training so that is all pretty positive as we approach two huge home games."
