Ben Wright
A brace from on-loan striker Ben Wright fired Hayes & Yeading to an opening day victory over Blue Square Bet Premier newcomers Bath City at Church Road.
The Peterborough United striker joined United in midweek and make the perfect start to his loan spell by scoring both of Hayes & Yeading's goals on Saturday afternoon.
Wright gave an indication of his intentions early on when he fired just wide with a curling drive from the edge of the area.
Bath City had a chance to break the deadlock on the half-hour mark but skipper Lewis Hogg saw his curled effort drift wide of the right-hand post.
The first half ended in stalemate but it wasn't long after the restart that the hosts claimed the lead.
Wright latched onto a pass from Ahmed Deen and turned before firing into the bottom-right corner from close range.
James Mulley and Elliott Buchanan were both denied by Bath goalkeeper Ryan Robinson minutes later, while Wright also had a goalbound effort saved.
The Romans were left cursing their luck as Gethin Jones saw his effort cleared off the line and a Lewis Hogg's 30-yard free-kick crashed against the crossbar.
However, Hayes & Yeading wrapped up the result five minutes from time when Wright blasted a free-kick into the top-right corner from the edge of the area.
Bath's Jones made amends for his earlier miss by netting an injury time goal but it was too little, too late as Hayes & Yeading held on to claim all three points.
Hayes & Yeading bookings: Yiadom.
Bath bookings: Hogg.
