York City booked their place in the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off final with a 1-0 victory over 10-man Mansfield Town at Field Mill on Monday.
The hosts edged their opponents in terms of chances created but they were unable to make full use of their home advantage as the Minstermen went on to score the winning goal in the first half of extra-time.
The first half was short on clear-cut goalscoring chances, but one of the best chances fell to Lindon Meikle on 18 minutes. However, Meikle was unable to capitalise on a glorious opportunity, as his shot from 18 yards out was collected well by York goalkeeper Michael Ingham.
The second offered more in the way of goalmouth action with both goalkeepers kept busy throughout.
Louis Briscoe should have put the Stags ahead in the 63rd minute, but his effort from just six yards was saved by Ingham.
It ended all squad after ninety minutes due to a lack of cutting edge from both sides, but the match sprang to life in the 11th minute when Matty Blair rose well to head home Jason Walker's cross and send the visiting fans into wild celebrations.
And Mansfield's afternoon went from bad to worse just one minute later as Ritchie Sutton was handed his marching orders for a second bookable offence.
York made full use of their numerical advantage in the second half of extra-time as the Stags began to tire.
Walker had two great chances to add to his side's tally, but was denied on both occasions by Alan Marriott.
Mansfield bookings: Riley, Sutton, Murray, Briscoe.
Sent off: Sutton (112).
York bookings: Doig, Oyebanjo, McLaughlin, Walker.
Ref: Andy Davies.
