Gateshead 2-0 Stockport

Gateshead edged relegation-threatened Stockport 2-0 for their second successive victory in the Blue Square Bet Premier since September.

The Tynsiders threatened after just three minutes when Jon Shaw and Chris Moore both made away keeper Matthew Glennon work to make two early saves.

Glennon was again called into action after 15 minutes when Chris Moore fired a shot which the stopper did well to save.

The former Huddersfield stopper eventually succumbed the game's opening goal as Shaw put the hosts ahead in the 61st minute.

Daniel O'Donnell was brought to book for bringing down the striker, who made no mistake to find the back of the net from the resulting spot-kick.

Shaw was in good form and three minutes later he set up team-mate Moore, who drilled home the second from the edge of the box.

The Tynesiders are now two points off the top five, while the Hatters are just one point above the drop zone.
