Aaron O'Connor
Luton Town maintained their Blue Square Bet Premier title challenge with a 1-0 win over struggling Stockport County on Tuesday.
Aaron O'Connor's 73rd minute penalty proved decisive at Kenilworth Road, taking third-placed Town up to 54 points - six off leaders Fleetwood Town and 31 ahead of 19th-placed County.
Both sides had chances in the opening period, with Danny Crow coming close for the hosts, while Euan Holden's left-footed shot rattled the cross bar at the other end.
The hosts upped the ante after the restart, as Janos Kovacs - who earlier had an effort cleared off the line - struck the bottom of the upright in the 52nd minute.
Stockport then nearly scored the opener but goalkeeper Kevin Pilkington made a superb full stretch stop to deny Sam Sheridan's 25-yard strike.
Gary Brabin's outfit finally got the breakthrough late on, as Adam Watkins showed some fancy footwork before being brought down by Joe Connor in the box. His opposing namesake, who missed a penalty against Kettering on Boxing Day, made no mistake this time, burying his effort hard and low to goalkeeper Ian Ormson's right.
