Rushden 3-1 Woking

Already-relegated Woking were unable to end their season on a high note as they slumped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Rushden & Diamonds at Nene Park.

The hosts made a flying start to the game and claimed the lead after just five minutes thanks to midfielder Robert Wolleaston.

Wolleaston latched onto a through ball from Andrew Burgess and spotted Woking goalkeeper Danny Knowles off his line before chipping past him and firing into the back of the net from an acute angle.

However, The Cards were up to the challenge and responded well by drawing level just four minutes later through defender Michael Kamara.

Oliver Bozanic sent in a free-kick from the right and Kamara met it with a header from close range to make it 1-1.

The visitors were on the front foot and should have doubled their tally two minutes later but Wilfried Domoraud sent his header wide of the left-hand post from Paolo Vernazza's cross.

Domoraud was in the thick of the action again minutes later but had a penalty shout turned down after going down in the box.

Woking looked like they would fashion the next breakthrough but it was the home side who struck again in the 35th minute when Michael Rankine headed home Chris Hope's cross from the right-hand flank.

Rushden further extended their lead five minutes after the break when Jake Beecroft took aim at goal from outside the box and his shot deflected past goalkeeper Danny Knowles and flew into the bottom-right corner.

Knowles then went on to deny efforts from Michael Corcoran and Sam Smith to give his side a chance of reducing the deficit.

But late efforts from Domoraud and Bozanic failed to test Rushden goalkeeper Dale Roberts and the scoreline remained unchanged.

Rushden bookings: None.

Woking bookings: None.
