Kidderminster Harriers assistant manager Gary Whild says he is surprised that David McDermott has decided to join league rivals York City on trial.
The former Walsall trainee is currently out of contract and was invited to pre-season training by the Harriers with a view to earning a new contract at Aggborough.
However, the 22-year-old has decided to link up with Martin Foyle's Minstermen after featuring for the harriers against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Whild told The Shuttle: "I'm surprised to see David try his luck at York.
"He's got a lad who looks after his affairs and obviously he's a free agent so that's up to him.
"He understood that Steve (Burr) wanted to take a proper look at him because of injuries and illness.
"It's his choice, good luck to him."
