Lee Ayres could re-establish his career with Forest Green Rovers after making an appearance for the club in a friendly on Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old struggled with a groin injury for much of last season with all the talk surrounding a possible exit from the club.
However, Ayres looked fit and raring to go as he made a second-half appearance against Didcot Town.
Ayres replaced the goalscorer, Ben Gerring, who is on trial at the club from Plymouth Argyle.
Rovers, who have been boosted by a new two-year deal with as yet unnamed shirt sponsors, have now played three warm-up matches including the 2-1 loss to Harborough Town and the 3-0 win over Frome Town.
