Cambridge Utd 1-3 Stevenage

Stevenage came from a goal down to claim all three points against Cambridge on Boxing Day to keep pace with Oxford United at the top of the Blue Square Premier.

Danny Crow opened the scoring from the spot with Yemi Odudabe equalising from his own spot kick. Charlie Griffin and Chris Beardsley then both scored in the second half to put the match out of sight the U's.

Cambridge got off to a great start when Crow converted his penalty after just five minutes. Mark Albrighton was at fault for allowing Richard Wilmot's through ball to deceive him before getting the wrong side of Chris Holroyd, who he subsequently pulled down in the box.

Although the early goal was a setback for Borough, they quickly regained their composure and dominated play.

Eddie Odhiambo thought he had found an equaliser when he headed the ball over United keeper Danny Potter, but the ball floated just wide of the goal.

Borough were level on the half hour though after Anthony Tonkin was adjudged to have upended Odubade in the box. The striker took the kick himself, sending the keeper the wrong way.

To make matter worse, Wayne Hatswell was then sent off for a harsh tackle on Chris Beardsley. The dismissal seemed to galvanise the home side though and for the remainder of the half, they dominated play and should have scored but for the resilience of Chris Day, who denied Holroyd.

Second half substitute Charlie Griffin needed just nine minutes to find the net, as he somehow scored from a tight angle, finishing off Odubade's cross.

Day was then forced to make a good save from Wilmott with his side then securing all three points with five minutes to go when Beardsley found himself in the right place to tap home Ronnie Henry's cross.
