Kenilworth Road

Luton 0-0 Altrincham

Luton Town saw their hopes of clinching automatic promotion dashed on Saturday afternoon as they were held to a goalless draw by Altrincham at Kenilworth Road.

The Hatters needed to win their clash with Altrincham, whilst hoping that Stevenage suffered a slip-up against Kidderminster Harriers.

However, due to Stevenage winning their Blue Square Premier clash, a winning result for Luton would have made no difference to the race for automatic promotion.

Luton had scored an astonishing amount of goals in their previous Blue Square Premier fixtures but they were unable to break down a gritty and determined Altrincham.

The first half was evenly contested but the Robins found themselves on the back foot for most of the second half as the Hatters piled forward in search of the opener.

Peter Doran twice came close to firing Altrincham into the lead after the half-time break, while Kevin Gallen saw his goalbound effort denied by Alty keeper Stuart Coburn in the 83rd minute.

Luton bookings: Murray, Hatch, Craddock.

Altrincham bookings: None.

Ref: James Adcock (Nottinghamshire).

Att: 7,374.
