Cambridge boss Martin Ling
Cambridge United finished their campaign on a high note be defeating Altrincham 2-0 at Moss Lane on a sun-soaked Saturday.
Substitute Adam Marriott bagged a late brace for the victorious visitors while Colin Little missed a first-half penalty for the Robins.
In an open contest, the U's were the better team early on yet very nearly went behind in the 27th minute after Brian Saah was deemed to have fouled Greg Young in the box.
However, Simon Brown dived smartly to his left to deny Little's effort from the spot, leaving affairs goalless at the break.
The match leapt into life in the second stanza when Marriott replaced Lee Phillips and scored the opening goal 15 minutes from time.
Marriott pounced on a second ball to bury his shot into the far corner with virtually his first touch of the game.
He then netted a final minute goal in equally clinical fashion after running on to a through ball by midfielder Robbie Willmott.
The result meant Cambridge finished tenth on the Blue Square Premier table, while Altrincham ended in 14th place.
Altrincham booked: Smith.
Cambridge booked: Gleeson.
