Eastbourne Borough find themselves dangerously close the drop zone after a heavy defeat to Kettering Town at Rockingham Road on Saturday.
The Poppies had already seen their play-off hopes dashed before Saturday's clash but Eastbourne were desperate to claim all three points in a bid to stave off the threat of relegation.
Eastbourne's chances of getting a result were severely reduced in the 37th minute when goalkeeper Danny Knowles was shown a straight red card for a professional foul on Jean-Paul Marna.
Marna powered home the resulting spot kick to make it 1-0 and it was all downhill for Eastbourne from that point on.
Eastbourne were left ruing their luck in first-half injury time when Ben Austin handled the ball in the area and Marna slotted home his second spot kick of the afternoon.
Kettering further extended their advantage in the 59th minute when Marcus Kelly latched onto a pass from James Dance before firing into the bottom-right corner from six yards out.
And Kettering rubbed more salt in Eastbourne's wounds when James Jennings fired home from inside the penalty area in the 74th minute to make it 4-0.
Kettering bookings: None.
Eastbourne bookings: Matt Crabb.
Sent Off: Knowles (38).
Ref: Stephen Ross (Lincolnshire).
