McEvilly set to leave Barrow

Barrow AFC striker Lee McEvilly is set to leave the Blue Square Bet Premier club to join Irish side Sligo Rovers.

The 28-year-old was instrumental in helping Barrow to FA Trophy success last month, but is set to depart after joint-managers Dave Bayliss and Darren Sheridan failed to offer him a new contract.

Bayliss told the North-West Evening Mail: "Macca has been training with Sligo Rovers and has been offered a contract. They are a professional club and pay good money.

"We were honest with Macca. He's known for a while that he needs to get fit, and we offered him the chance to come back in pre-season and prove himself. We couldn't offer someone a contract on the back of 50 minutes' play at Wembley.

"I talk to Macca a lot. He has to do what's best for him. He has a kid and another one on the way.

"We wouldn't go short. We've been inundated with calls from other strikers wanting to join Barrow.

"All I can say is the supporters will be delighted at what we'll be bringing in."
