Moss Lane

Altrincham 4-0 Weymouth

Altrincham further distanced themselves from an impending relegation scrap with a comprehensive victory over crisis-hit Weymouth at Moss Lane on Saturday evening.

Manager Graham Heathcote will be a relieved man after seeing his side end an alarming four-match losing streak but will be counting the cost of victory after all three of his substitutes picked up knocks.

The Robins got off to a flying start and claimed the lead after just one minute when Dale Johnson sent an inviting throw into the box which was flicked on by Michael Welch at the near post and palmed into goal by Weymouth goalkeeper Simon Evans.

They almost doubled their advantage just two minutes later but 18-year-old loanee David Ryan saw his powerful free-kick smash against the upright and roll out of play.

The hosts continued to pile on the pressure and doubled their advantage in the eighth minute when striker Colin Little latched onto goalkeeper Stuart Coburn's long-range pass and lobbed the ball over Evans.

Weymouth were struggling to keep their opponents at bay and fell further behind in the 13th minute.

Alty's Shaun Densmore sent in an inviting corner kick from the right which was headed down into the box by Joe O'Neill and collected by Johnson, who placed his shot in the top-right corner.

The visitors were struggling to create chances but managed to keep their opponents at bay for the remainder of the half.

Altrincham came flying out of the blocks after the half-time break and came close to notching another goal in the 48th minute but Little's effort from the left of goal was saved by Evans.

Heathcote's side scored their fourth and final goal in the 53rd minute when Little fed a through ball to O'Neill, who fired a powerful shot into the top-right corner.
