Terras appoint Jerry Gill

Blue Square South outfit Weymouth FC have announced the appointment of veteran right-back Jerry Gill as their new first-team manager.

The 39-year-old has been playing for Blue Square North side Redditch United most recently and links up with the Terras ten days after the sacking of Ian Hutchinson.

Gill does have some experience in management after a spell as assistant-manager at Forest Green Rovers.

He will be assisted by Andy Harris, who was named caretaker manager after Hutchinson's departure.

Gill told Echosport: "I'm absolutely buzzing and I'd like to thank the chairman George Rolls and Gary Calder for giving me the opportunity.

"It's a huge job and the short-term aim is to keep the club in the league.

"I wouldn't have taken the job if I didn't believe we could do it.

"I believe I've got good man-management skills and hopefully that will help get the best out of the players.

"I came down to Weymouth with Forest Green Rovers last season and although it's somewhat of a cliche, the club really is a sleeping giant.

"The club has a great fan-base and I want to bring back the good days. As a player I was 100 per cent committed and that's the minimum requirement."
