Dorchester caretaker-boss Ashley Vickers feels his side should have claimed all three points against Weymouth in their Boxing Day clash.
The Magpies drew 0-0 with the Terras and remain 10 points clear of the Blue Square South's bottom side but it was a performance both the manager and players know they should have won.
Vickers told the Dorset Echo: It was a typical derby, it was a war of attrition and there are a lot of positives we can take from it.
"I thought Weymouth defended resolutely, I don't want to do them an injustice by saying we dominated the game but if you look at the chances and shots overall that shows the percentage of play.
"Derby games are always frenetic. They had one or two players who played well but overall I'd like to think we won our particular battles and it was unfortunate that we didn't get the goal that perhaps our play deserved."
The Dorchester players felt they had let themselves down and will be looking on an improved performance when they face league leaders Newport County on Monday.
Vickers continued: "The boys came in afterwards and were downhearted and that says a lot about them, they are so hungry for a win it's untrue - particular against our neighbours.
"The boys are still hurting because they feel they still owe Weymouth so we'll go again New Year's Day and have another ding- dong then and take it to them.
"There's no rest for us, it'll be difficult at Newport, we need to be resolute and we need to utilise the squad we have as there were some good players who didn't even get on the bench on Saturday."
