Kingsmeadow
AFC Wimbledon will go into the new year as Blue Square Bet Premier leaders thanks to a 3-0 victory over 10-man Eastbourne Borough at Kingsmeadow on Tuesday.
The Sports had to play for over an hour with ten men following the dismissal of Richard Pacquette for a poor challenge on Seb Brown and The Dons were in no mood to be charitable.
After a frustrating period for the home side - which saw Lee Minshull hit the bar and Boro's Jamie Taylor do exactly the same, Mark Nwokeji finally broke the deadlock in the third minute of first-half injury time.
The forward made no mistake as he slotted home from the edge of the penalty area with a fine strike, sending the home fans into raptures.
The home side dominated the second half but had to be patient as they looked to add to their tally, with a number of efforts failing to come off.
The second goal finally came in the 80th minute when Ricky Wellard finished off a fine move with a simple tap in.
Rashid Yussuff rubbed salt into Eastbourne's wounds in the final minute of the match as he made it 3-0 with a fantastic strike from range.
The victory sees The Dons move three points clear of Newport County, while Eastbourne Borough are still lingering just above the relegation zone.
