Eddie Oshodi
Rushden & Diamonds strengthened their case for a play-off position after running out 2-0 winners against Eastbourne Borough at Nene Park on Tuesday night.
Diamonds took the lead after 23 minutes when home goalkeeper Joe Day sent a long punt upfield towards Paris Cowan-Hall, who controlled on his chest before lobbing the advancing Tommy Forecast in the Eastbourne goal.
The Sports has arguably the better of the first half and created chances for Ethan Strevett and Ben Austin, but they could not beat Day in the Diamonds goal. Richard Pacquette also had an effort miss the far post by inches.
The visitors pushed for an equaliser in the second period but could only muster long-range attempts from Pacquette and Matt Crabb before the home side put the game beyond doubt in the 89th minute.
A late corner for Rushden ended up at the feet of Eddie Oshodi inside the six-yard box and he made no mistake with the finish to hand his side a valuable 1-0 win.
Rushden bookings: Cowan-Hall, Porter, Osano.
Eastbourne bookings: None.
Ref: Stephen Ross (Lincolnshire).
