James Coutts
Newport County have released midfielder James Coutts to make way for new signings.
With the arrival of the transfer window, the Blue Square South leaders decided to allow Coutts to leave to free up money for wages.
Holdsworth told the South Walees Argus: "I've had a chat with James who has done well for us, we've agreed it's best for him to move on because his chances are going to be more limited with players returning from injury.
"We've got a budget and this frees us to look at one or two options."
Holdsworth has also found himself in the hat for the vacant managerial post at Premier League Bolton Wanderers although the Newport boss isn't holding his breath with the likes of Paul Jewell, Walter Zenga, Peter Reid and Alan Curbishley all potential candidates.
He continued: "I've heard that my name has been mentioned by supporters which is very nice to hear, but that only shows how well we're progressing here at Newport.
"But there is nothing really to say on the matter."
