New boys Newport County twice rallied from behind to earn a share of the spoils with Terry Brown's AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow on Monday afternoon.
The Dons drew first blood in the 16th minute when Eddie Odhiambo brought down Sammy Moore in the area and Danny Kedwell stepped up to calmly slot home from the penalty spot.
Newport didn't take long to respond as they were also awarded a penalty in the 25th minute after Ismail Yakubu's foul on Robbie Matthews.
Craig Reid made no mistake from the spot to net his fourth penalty of the season and restore parity.
Terry Brown's men reclaimed the lead in the 57th minute when Christian Jolley latched onto a Kedwell pass before firing into the bottom-right corner from close range.
However, Newport were up to the challenge and drew level again in the 79th minute.
Glyn Thompson's free-kick was met by the head of Robbie Matthews and Reid latched onto his headed pass before firing into the bottom-right corner to make it 2-2.
Newport kept up the pressure on the Dons defence and had a chance to snatch all three points but a header from substitute Tony Taggart failed to his the target.
AFC Wimbledon bookings: Hatton, Blackman, Jolley, Kedwell.
Newport bookings: Odhiambo, Bignot, Warren, Matthews.
Referee: Ian Cooper (Kent).
Attendance: 3,828.
