Braintree clinch Hockton signature

Blue Square South outfit Braintree Town have announced the signing of striker Danny Hockton from league rivals Bromley for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old striker joins Braintree for an undisclosed four-figure fee and was registered in time to play in Saturday's FA Cup tie at Kingstonian.

Manager Lee Patterson told the club's official website: "I have been in talks with Bromley for a few weeks and at first it appeared he wasn't available.

"That changed on Tuesday. After a chat with Bromley Chairman Jerry Dolke, we came to an agreement and I got permission to speak to the player.

"I agreed terms with Danny on Wednesday morning and he signed for the club before training with his new team mates on Thursday evening.

"He knows quite a few of the players already which should help him settle in.

"From my point of view Danny is a quality signing, a prolific goalscorer with a proven track record at this level, a record I hope he continues to add to whilst at Braintree.

"This gives us some exciting options up front with Danny able to play with Sean Marks and Gareth Williams, who he played with at Bromley last season and where they scored 47 goals between them."

Hockton started his career at Millwall, making 35 Football League appearances during an eight year stay before joining Stevenage Borough in 2000.

He then had spells with Dover, Crawley and Billericay before joining Bromley in the summer of 2007.
